Position :

Radiologic Technologist I / II / III. We are looking for someone with the ability to perform all standard / routine radiographic procedures and to be trained in at least two specialized diagnostic areas. The candidate should be able to work independently to provide a full range of varied shift coverage that includes PMs, Nights, Weekends and Holidays, and to gain cooperation of patients to obtain high quality images. The incumbent should be able to work with patients of varying ages. Mammography and / or Computerized Tomography (CT) experience is strongly preferred.

Distinguishing Characteristics

Radiologic Technologist I

(Hourly $55.35 - $69.20) is the entry level class performing standard and routine radiographic procedures and may be trained in more complex procedures and specialized functional areas. Incumbents may promote to the II level upon demonstrated competence in either mammography or invasive fluoroscopy.

Radiologic Technologist II

(Hourly $58.55 - $73.21) is the journey level class performing standard / routine procedures and at least one specialized diagnostic area. Incumbents may promote to the III level upon demonstrated competence in mammography or invasive fluoroscopy procedures and one additional specialized area.

Radiologic Technologist III

(Hourly $61.86 - $77.34) is the advanced journey level class performing standard / routine procedures and procedures in at least two specialized diagnostic areas, or may provide full off-shift coverage independently.

Duties by Area

Radiology

Perform radiographic examinations of varying difficulty by positioning the patient and setting exposure factors and table movements.

Select proper techniques to produce quality images while keeping dose low.

Provide radiation protection in accordance with prescribed standards.

Perform portable radiography in Surgery, Intensive Care, Emergency Department, Medical / Surgical Inpatient Units and the Morgue.

Computerized / Computed Tomography (CT)

Perform various CT scans following set protocols or radiologist instructions and prepare patients for procedures.

Position patients and operate the CT table; identify anatomies and produce images of pathologies.

Select appropriate equipment; administer oral and rectal contrast media and prepare contrast media for injection.

Assist in CT-guided biopsies; perform quality control and record results.

Interventional Procedures

Prepare examination rooms and ensure necessary equipment and supplies are available.

Prepare patients and coordinate with nursing on patient preparation; maintain aseptic procedures.

Assist physicians in radiologic procedures; respond to emergencies as needed.

Schedule and instruct patients in interventional procedures.

Mammography

Perform quality, routine and specialty mammographic views; perform quality controls and record results.

Maintain infection control standards; provide patient education and scheduling.

All Assignments

Assist in training Radiologic Technology students in various diagnostic procedures.

Ensure accurate data collection for quality assurance; perform mandated quality controls and record results.

Administer CPR to patients in emergencies; perform related duties as assigned.

Licensure / Certification

All levels :

Certification as a Radiologic and Fluoroscopic Technologist (CRT) issued by the State of California; Licensure as a Radiologic Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).

Additional for the II level if assigned to Mammography : Certification in Mammography (CRT).

Additional for the III level : CRT and ARRT Mammography OR CRT and ARRT CT certification.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Knowledge of X-ray and imaging equipment and techniques; anatomy and physiology; cross-sectional anatomy; radiation safety.

Skills to follow instructions, work with patients and physicians, train others, administer CPR, and position patients for clear images.

Education and Experience :

Any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. Typical qualifications :

Radiologic Technologist II :

One year of radiologic experience with demonstrated competence in X-ray examinations and either Invasive Fluoroscopy or Mammography.

Radiologic Technologist III :

Two years of radiologic experience with demonstrated competence in X-ray examinations and either Invasive Fluoroscopy or Mammography plus at least one other diagnostic area.

Anyone may apply. County employees with six months of continuous service receive five points added to their final passing score. The examination process includes application screening (pass / fail) and a panel interview (weight : 100%). An education / experience appraisal may be used to group applicants by qualification.
