Lead, Financial Planning, Analysis and Investments (Kansas City)

The Stowers Institute of Medical Research is seeking a Financial Planning, Analysis and Investments Lead. As a key member of the Finance team, the Financial Planning, Analysis & Investments Lead (the Lead) serves as a strategic partner to the CFO, with responsibilities spanning investments, budgeting and forecasting, financial modeling, KPI development and monitoring, and cash management in coordination with the accounting team to ensure the Institutes short- and long-term liquidity needs are met. The Lead will provide analytical insights to drive strategic decision-making, ensure financial discipline, and steward the Institutes long-term financial sustainability and asset growth. The Lead will also act as a trusted business advisor to Institute departments and will work collaboratively across the finance team.

The Lead will report to the Chief Financial Officer of the Institute and be an integral part of the finance and accounting team. The successful hire will also work alongside the Institutes Controller and Director of Financial Operations. The Lead will manage a team whose responsibilities include budgeting & forecasting, financial modeling, cash management, and oversight of the Institutes investment portfolio.

Key Responsibilities :

Financial Planning & Analysis

• Partner with the CFO and Finance & Accounting leadership team to assess the financial implications of strategic and operational decisions across the Institute
• Support the development and execution of the Institutes annual financial plan and run rate, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and long-term sustainability.
• Working collaboratively on the finance and accounting team, design and implement financial models, dashboards and analytical tools to evaluate performance and measure the impact of business and financial decisions.
• Lead analysis of historical and current financial performance, develop forecasts and budgets with variance analysis and actionable insights for department leaders.
• Manage the FP&A team responsible for management reporting, annual budgeting, and quarterly forecasting processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and engagement with department stakeholders.
• Oversee cash flow forecasting and long-term commitment management to ensure liquidity needs are met and financial stability is maintained.
• Partner with the Controller to verify accuracy, reconciliation, and integrity of financial data used for management reporting.
• Develop advanced quantitative and analytical models to support scenario analysis, capital planning, and strategic initiatives.
