[job_card.job_description]Designs and deploys new applications and enhancements to existing applications, software, and operating systems. Performs cost-benefit and return on investment analyses for proposed systems to aid management in making implementation decisions. Conducts research on software and systems products to justify recommendations and to support purchasing efforts. Interacts and negotiates with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure system-related products and services. Gauges the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems; develop and implement strategies for improving or further leveraging these systems. Proposes and creates system design models, specifications, diagrams, and charts to provide direction to system programmer and development teams. Designs and performs server and security audits, system backup procedures, and other recovery processes in accordance with the city's disaster recovery and business continuity strategies. Integrates servers, including database, e-mail, print, and backup servers and their associated software into enterprise systems. Ensures system connectivity of all servers, shared software, groupware, and other applications. Creates and maintains documentation as it relates to system configuration, mapping, processes, and service records. Ensures compatibility and interoperability of in-house computing systems. Coordinates and performs in-depth tests, including end-user reviews, for modified and new systems. Monitors and tests system performance; prepare and deliver system performance statistics and reports. Provides orientation and training to end users for all modified and new systems. Formal Education / Knowledge : Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field. Knowledge is normally acquired through four years of college resulting in a Bachelor's degree or equivalent. Experience : Minimum of six years of experience in a related field. Certifications and Other Requirements : Valid Driver's License. Ability to meet the criminal background regulations mandated by the FBI CJIS Security Policy. Must possess two certifications from the following organizations (or similar) : Microsoft; Cisco; VMware; Comp TIA; Commvault; ISC2; GIAC; etc. Reading : Work requires the ability to read technical manuals, troubleshooting guides, detailed diagrams, installation and configuration guides. Math : Work requires the ability to perform general math calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and evaluate statistical information. Writing : Work requires the ability to write memos, instruction documents, maintenance and troubleshooting documents, spreadsheets, and forms. Managerial : Complex : Work requires functioning as a lead worker performing essentially the same work as those directed, and includes overseeing work quality, training, instructing, and scheduling work. Budget Responsibility : Moderate Oversees budget preparation of a program budget. Reviews and approves expenditures of significant budgeted funds for the department or does research and prepares recommendations for city-wide budget expenditures. Policy / Decision Making : Substantial - Supports the preparation of budget documents; may do research to justify data used in documents for a unit or division of a department. May recommend budget allocations. Often compiles data and / or enters or oversees data entry. May have responsibility for monitoring budget expenditures (typically non-discretionary expenditures). Technical Skills : Comprehensive Application - Work requires advanced skills and knowledge in approaches and systems, which affect the design and implementation of major programs, solutions for highly complex issues, and / or processes organization-wide. Independent judgment and decision-making abilities are necessary to apply technical skills effectively. Interpersonal / Human Relations Skills : Moderate Interactions at this level usually impact the implementation of policies. Contacts may involve interpretation of how policies are implemented and may require discussion and the support of controversial positions or the negotiation of sensitive issues or important presentations. During interactions on policy implementation, contacts Familiarize with the organization's current Infrastructure operations, technologies, and team structure. Meet with stakeholders to understand their needs and manage expectations. Review current Infrastructure standards and practices against industry best practices. Identify gaps and opportunities for alignment. Understand Goodyear's Core Values and identify which of the 6-core values Infrastructure personifies. Evaluate current tool sets, and ensure they are properly being leveraged, as well as determine if any additional tools are needed to optimize operations. Compare the current infrastructure performance against industry standards and organizational needs to pinpoint areas that fall short or rely on manual intervention. Leverage discovery tools to develop dependency maps for the city's applications. Develop a comprehensive plan to migrate on premise operations to Microsoft Entra. Vacation Leave : 14 days per year, increasing with longevity. Senior Systems Engineer
The City of Goodyear is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to ensure the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the city's IT systems. This position involves designing, implementing, and maintaining systems to support business objectives while ensuring optimal performance and security. The Senior Systems Engineer works collaboratively with IT teams and stakeholders to troubleshoot issues, support system enhancements, and implement new technologies to drive operational efficiency. Additionally, this role includes the design and management of the systems architecture, including the physical appliances that support the virtual environment.
The ideal candidate is a highly skilled and motivated Senior Systems Engineer with a deep understanding of enterprise IT infrastructure, exceptional troubleshooting abilities, and a proactive mindset. The ideal candidate will have proven experience managing and optimizing complex environments, with a focus on performance, security, and scalability. The ideal candidate's expertise in these areas will ensure seamless operation, high availability, and the continuous improvement of our IT services.
