Description :
The Registered Nurse is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for a group of patients for a designated timeframe.
The nurse provides care to patients through therapeutic use of self, the nursing process, the environment, instrumentation, and collaboration with other health care team members.
The Registered Nurse is expected to perform duties according to established standards of care and core values.
Reports to the assigned Unit Director.
Key Responsibilities :
Performs ongoing and systematic assessment / data collection, focusing on the physiological, psychological, and cognitive status of patients.
Analyzes assessment data to determine appropriate nursing diagnoses.
Identifies appropriate expected outcomes individualized to the patient.
Formulates a goal-directed plan of care that is prioritized based on nursing diagnoses and patient outcomes.
Identifies patient and significant other learning needs and implements appropriate measures to meet those needs.
Implements care in a knowledgeable, skillful, consistent, and continuous manner.
Documents duties on unit and in patient record in a timely, accurate, and concise manner.
Evaluates the effectiveness of care provided by self and other health care team members.
Functions with an awareness and application of safety issues.
Performs efficiently in emergency patient situations, following established protocols and documenting events.
Demonstrates sound knowledge and actions in decision-making for designated patient populations.
Follows all policies and procedures specific to the division and unit.
Incorporates hourly rounding into daily practice.
Demonstrates self-responsibility and accountability for professional practices.
Demonstrates awareness of legal issues in patient care and strives to manage situations in a reduced-risk manner.
Participates actively in staff development activities for the unit and department personnel.
Forms effective working relationships with health care team members, patients, and significant others.
Remains flexible in staffing patterns and resolution of staffing conflicts.
Demonstrates awareness of patient and significant other rights.
Makes decisions and takes actions on behalf of patients in an ethical manner.
Stays informed of current nursing research and implements findings in practice as applicable.
Establishes priorities of patient care based on essential needs and available resources.
Accepts accountability for individual practice.
Respects and recognizes each patient as a unique individual while providing holistic nursing care.
