Facility: Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) - Federal Detention Center (FDC) SeaTac

Location: 2425 South 200th Street, SeaTac, WA 98198 (On-site in the Health Services Department)

Type: Full-Time Contract Position

Position Summary

The Certified Pharmacy Technician will provide comprehensive, on-site pharmacy technician services to the inmates at FDC SeaTac, operating under a Blanket Purchase Agreement (BPA). Services must be professional in nature, commensurate with current accreditation standards, and in compliance with all Federal and State policies and regulations.

Schedule

• Work Hours: Normally 40 sessions (hours) per week, 8 hours per day, 5 days per week, excluding Federal Holidays.
• Shift: Typically between 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., which includes a paid 30-minute on-duty lunch break. Hours may be adjusted to meet institutional needs and may include holidays and evenings.
• Billing: Services are billed on a per session (hour) basis.

Key Responsibilities

The technician is responsible for a full range of pharmacy support duties, including but not limited to:

• Dispensing: Reading and interpreting prescriptions, obtaining the proper medication in the correct strength and dosage, counting, pouring, or measuring, affixing the proper label, and documenting the process.
• Inventory/Logistics: Assisting with inventory management and ordering of medicines, including placing stock in proper storage areas, rotating stock, and removing outdated items.
• Repackaging: Repackaging medications following established procedures and maintaining all required documentation.
• Delivery: Delivering medications to patient areas securely.
• Administrative Support: Collecting drug use evaluation data for quality improvement, operating and maintaining pharmacy equipment, and converting orders for technical accuracy (after review by a pharmacist).
• Patient Interaction: Providing patient education on pharmacy topics such as requesting refills and drug information sheets (relaying judgmental questions to the pharmacist).
• Security: Handling controlled substances and constantly being aware of security, maintaining a professional relationship with inmates, and reporting any infractions immediately.

Required Qualifications

• Certification: Must hold a current, active, full, and unrestricted certification as a Pharmacy Technician from the State of Washington.
• Education: Successful completion of a Pharmacy Technician training program that is accredited, approved, or administered by ASHP, The Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education, Pharmacy Technician Certification Board, The United States Armed Forces, or meeting the requirements of RCS 18.64A.020.
• Experience: Must have at least 6 months of applicable experience. Experience working in a correctional environment is preferred but not required.
• Additional Certifications: Must have a current CPR certification.
• Background: Must be able to pass a drug screening and a comprehensive law enforcement agency background check (including NCIC check, fingerprint check, and credit check).
