Area Coordinator for Residence Life

The Area Coordinator for Residence Life at Hinds Community College is a critical full-time professional staff member responsible for the comprehensive management and student development within 1-3 designated residence halls / communities. This position primarily focuses on staff supervision, directly mentoring and leading a team of 8-15 Resident Assistants (RAs) and managing their selection, training, and evaluation. A core duty involves community building, ensuring the implementation of the Residential Engagement Model to foster positive academic achievement, personal development, and social interaction among residents. The Coordinator serves as a primary student support and crisis management resource, interpreting and enforcing university policy, providing advisement and referrals, and participating in a rotating on-duty schedule for emergency response. Additionally, the role includes significant administrative duties such as budgeting, coordinating major departmental operations (e.g., openings / closings, summer projects), and advising student leadership organizations like the Residence Hall Association (RHA).

A Bachelor's Degree or equivalent is required; appropriate coursework in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, College Student Personnel, or related field. Ability to supervise staff, manage selection processes for student and professional staff. Must be able to follow through on multiple and often simultaneous projects and work under time sensitive deadlines.
