Senior Product Developer | New York, NY
The Rachel Comey design team is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Product Developer to join our studio. This role oversees the end-to-end development of our collections—from initial concept through sample delivery—ensuring excellence in product execution, clear communication across teams, and seamless workflow management. Working closely with Design, Production, Patternmaking, our in-house sample room, and both domestic and overseas partners, the Product Developer plays a central role in bringing each collection to life.
Key Responsibilities
- Shape seasonal product strategy, guiding collection planning, assortment structure, and SKU alignment with overall brand vision.
- Oversee and maintain relationships with small-batch factories and global vendors (EU, Asia, South America, domestic), ensuring high-quality construction, craftsmanship, and attention to detail.
- Lead prototype and sample development, monitoring timelines, budgets, and seasonal milestones while providing strategic oversight to the process.
- Drive collection editing and assortment planning, helping to refine the range while maintaining brand integrity and balancing creative and commercial priorities.
- Identify opportunities to improve product development processes, streamline workflows, and support innovation in materials, techniques, and finishes.
- Partner with factories and mills to evaluate feasibility, quality, and creative opportunities, including specialty techniques such as embroidery, beading, and fabric treatments.
- Guide costing, margin strategy, and navigation of tariffs across multiple price points, ensuring collections are both aspirational and commercially viable.
- Lead cross-functional collaboration across design, production, sample room, and external partners to ensure smooth workflows, timely delivery, and consistency in execution.
- Serve as a strategic thought partner, offering problem-solving, creative solutions, and clear guidance to the team on all aspects of product development.
What We're Looking For
7–10+ years of experience in product development within contemporary or luxury RTW.Deep technical knowledge of garment construction, fabrics, trims, and specialty finishes.Experience managing small-batch production and global vendors, with strong negotiation and relationship-building skills.Strategic thinker with excellent leadership, communication, and organizational abilities; able to set vision and guide teams.Strong editing and assortment-planning instincts.Passion for craftsmanship, well-made clothing, and thoughtful design that balances creativity with commercial considerations.About You
Strong background in product development within fashion, ideally across RTW categories.Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities across teams and time zones.Clear communicator who thrives in cross-functional environments.Solutions-oriented, proactive, and comfortable adapting to evolving needs and seasonal pressures.Passion for craftsmanship, product excellence, and the creative process.Experience with working with factories that provide small productions across following categories : soft, fluid, tailoring, embroidery in EU, Asia etc.About Us

Our in-house studio includes a full pattern and sample room with senior patternmakers skilled in draping and CAD development, as well as a cutting and sewing team led by master tailors. Many of our team members have been with us for over a decade, and we’re excited to grow into our next chapter together.
