The unit has a capacity of 16 beds and can expand to 20 beds. Ratios typically range from 1 : 1 to 1 : 2. The electronic medical record system used is Cerner. Charge nurses are present but do not carry patient loads. Nurse aides are not available. Weekend work is required every other weekend, with the possibility of filling in for last-minute scheduling gaps. On-call status requires being within a 30-minute response time from the facility. On-call status may arise depending on staffing needs due to census. Holiday scheduling will be determined based on unit needs. Scrub color is navy. Telemetry and ventilators are utilized in the unit, with specific equipment and support available 24 / 7. The team includes an intensivist available 24 hours. IV and respiratory therapy teams are available during the day and night, respectively. Shifts may vary based on census and staffing; nurses may be placed on call. Floating may occur, with potential to step down to a telemetry unit with a ratio of 4 : 1. Orientation consists of two shifts in the ICU before transitioning to independent practice. Common diagnoses and patient types include adults and pediatrics, covering various medical and surgical conditions. This includes experience with procedures like balloon pumps, cranial surgeries, trauma management, and more. Additional competencies may require training and verification. Cancellations may occur, allowing for up to four shifts to be canceled during the assignment.
