Hiring Range is an estimate of where you can receive an offer. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors including your skills qualifications experience education licenses training and internal equity.

Pima County Health Department is in search of a passionate individual to serve in the role of Youth Population Senior Health Educator. This role will work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders and subject matter experts to generate effective presentations and health promotion activities to improve the overall health of youth and young adults (ages 24 and under) living in Pima County. This position will work alongside multiple programs and initiatives within the Health Department in building and facilitating training and education of youth parents and youth-serving professionals primarily pertaining to youth mental health and substance use prevention as well as but not limited to Strengthening Families Program nutrition and active lifestyles teen pregnancy prevention HIV / STI prevention and naloxone / overdose death prevention. This position will also assist the Youth Health Action Team (YHAT) a collaborative initiative between Pima County Health Department and Pima County Public Libraries. The YHAT is a youth-led coalition supported by the Pima Behavioral Health Coalition (PBHC) Pima County Health Department (PCHD) and Pima County Public Libraries (PCPL) aimed at improving behavioral health services in Pima County. Open to youth ages 14-24 YHAT allows members to influence mental health initiatives while developing professional skills exploring health careers and building support networks. The program runs from September to April with meetings twice a month. Members work on projects addressing youth mental health and substance use challenges guided by research and local health data.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background working with youth schools interdepartmental programs and youth-serving community partners to improve the health and wellbeing of young people in our community. This candidate will have expertise in creating capacity-building presentations and will possess top-notch workshop facilitation skills to enhance the public health infrastructure of youth-serving professionals in Pima County. Finally the ideal candidate thrives while working alongside youth and young adults to engage and uplift their voices wherever possible in this critical work.

Essential Functions :

Leads the development of comprehensive health education programs curricula and materials tailored to diverse populations and community needs;

Collaborates with program coordinators and manager to design evidence-based educational content and strategies;

Plans and facilitates health education sessions workshops and presentations in various community settings ensuring that

content aligns with program goals and objectives;

Utilizes advanced teaching methods to engage participants encourage behavior change and promote health literacy;

Creates reviews and updates educational resources pamphlets multimedia materials and digital content;

Cultivates and maintains relationships with community organizations schools healthcare providers and local agencies to

enhance health education program reach and effectiveness;

Takes a lead role in community outreach building awareness of public health issues available resources and healthy

behaviors;

Provides guidance and mentorship to junior health educators;

Offers training and professional development opportunities to build capacity within the team;

May supervise health education program staff.

Minimum Qualifications :

Associates degree from an accredited college or university AND two years of experience providing health education.

(Relevant experience may be substituted for education and education from an accredited college or university may be substituted by relevant experience.)

OR :

Two years of experience with Pima County serving as a Community Health Worker II Public Health Navigator Public Health Educator I or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications : (Be specific in describing your experience in your application. Ensure the descriptions provided illustrate your competencies specifically addressing the required and preferred qualifications.) :

Masters degree in public health education or social work.

Experience working with youth schools or in another youth-serving capacity.

Experience developing coordinating and facilitating workshops seminars and / or trainings.

Bilingual (English / Spanish).

Experience developing and executing programming or projects with community partners.

Experience in conducting community outreach organizing and / or capacity building.

Experience with Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook Word PowerPoint and Excel.

Selection Procedure :

Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications may be further evaluated / scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments / testing may be required as part of the selection process.

Supplemental Information :

Licenses and certificates : Valid driver license is required at time of application . Valid AZ driver license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicants suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services review and approval of the candidates driving record.

Special Notice Items : The County requires pre-employment background checks. Successful candidates will receive a post-offer pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history education and criminal conviction history. A prior criminal conviction will not automatically disqualify a candidate from employment with the County.
