Police Sergeant - Excellent Benefits!
The Police Sergeant serves as a shift commander and campus law enforcement officer reporting to the Operations Division Lieutenant. The Sergeant will also be assigned supervisory duties for other security safety operations. Duties are performed in accordance with established policies and procedures regarding law enforcement, security, safety, and traffic services on the university campus.

Responsibilities :
Performs all of the duties of a Police Officer.Supervises shift staff; staff work assignments; informs staff of policies and procedures and insures compliance; training for new staff; staff development and counseling to improve staffs performance, correction of performance deficiencies, approves arrest decisions, reviews reports; prepares annual reports on evaluation of personnel and shift operations.Manages and conducts case investigations. Develops officer knowledge of criminal procedures, laws, report writing and investigative skills.Makes presentations to campus groups, represents the department in campus meetings, teams and committees. Works with individual and groups in the resolution of conflicts.Participates in and assists with in-service training programs. Serves as a field training officer for new officers.Plans, coordinates, and supervises campus special events.Completes additional tasks as assigned by the Chief of Police, which may include assignments to other duties such as dispatcher, office work, community service staff functions, and work in plain clothes assignments.Follows all applicable policies, laws, and safety procedures.Completes performance review process with supervisor / employees to understand job performance expectations and how they fit into the department and university goals.Communicates openly and recognizes contributions of co-workers and supervisor.Pursues professional development to keep pace with demands for services and information; including maintaining up to date information about the department and university.Responsibility for Final Decisions :
Direct supervision of 3 to 6 employees.
Reviews work to ensure compliance with procedures and deadlines.
Spends time planning, scheduling, and assigning priorities of several ongoing assignments.
Reports To : Operations Division Lieutenant.
Work is performed independently on routine work, non-routine issues or questions are referred to the supervisor.
Education / Skill Requirements :
High School graduate with a minimum of 3 years of law enforcement experience.Must have satisfactory compliance with job expectations to include but not limited to attendance, punctuality, completion as assignments and other duties as requested.Must possess a valid SC Drivers License with a good driving record.Must have completed the Criminal Justice Academy.Prior law enforcement experience in a university setting preferred.Must have excellent communication skills.Work Conditions :
