Job Summary
The Traveling Direct Care Worker supports individuals with developmental disabilities across multiple group home locations, ensuring their health, safety, and overall quality of life. This role involves traveling to various sitesincluding but not limited to Phoenix, Mesa, and Tucsonwith potential expansion to other areas in the future. Staff will be reimbursed for approved travel expenses. Traveling Direct Care Workers provide hands-on assistance with personal care, daily living activities, and health-related needs while fostering independence, dignity, and community engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Resident Care & Support
- Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), such as bathing, dressing, toileting, feeding, and mobility support.
- Monitor residents health, behavior, and overall well-being; promptly report concerns to supervisors.
- Administer prescribed oral medications and perform basic health-related tasks (e.g., changing dressings, checking vital signs) in alignment with care plans.
- Provide companionship and meaningful engagement in recreational, educational, and social activities.
- Support residents in learning and practicing skills that encourage greater independence.
Home Environment & Daily Operations
Prepare and serve meals according to residents dietary needs and preferences.Assist with household upkeep, including laundry, cleaning, and organization, to maintain safe and comfortable living spaces.Accompany and transport residents to appointments, community activities, and recreational outings.Communication & Documentation
Accurately document care provided, changes in condition, and daily activities in compliance with agency policies.Collaborate with families, healthcare providers, and team members to ensure coordinated, person-centered care.Follow all safety protocols, care plans, and state licensing requirements across multiple group home settingsQualifications
High school diploma or GED required; relevant training or certification (e.g., CNA, HHA, DSP) preferred.Valid Fingerprint Clearance Card.Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, particularly in residential or group home environments, preferred.Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build rapport and trust.Valid drivers license, clean driving record, and ability to transport residents safely.CPR / First Aid certification (or ability to obtain).Willingness and ability to travel frequently between assigned locations.Three Professional References RequiredSchedule & Availability
This is an on-call position with no guaranteed hours.Workers may be asked to cover shifts at any group home within the district they are hired for.Shift lengths vary depending on coverage needs and can range from short-notice calls to full shifts.Flexibility is essentialtravel within the district and rapid response to staffing gaps are core expectations.Open availability is strongly preferred, including willingness to work weekends and holidays when needed.Work Environment
Work is performed in group home settings with direct resident care responsibilities.Requires physical activity, including lifting, assisting with mobility, and responding quickly to emergencies.Flexible scheduling required, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.Frequent travel between cities and group home locations.
