Position Summary
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides independent, patient-centered care in a fast-paced urgent care setting. The NP evaluates, diagnoses, and treats acute illnesses and injuries, orders and interprets diagnostic tests, prescribes medications, and coordinates care in compliance with California scope of practice laws and clinic policies.
This position requires sound clinical judgment, efficiency, and the ability to manage a wide range of urgent medical conditions with minimal on-site physician supervision.
Minimum Qualifications
- Active and unrestricted California Nurse Practitioner license
- Minimum 1 year of clinical experience as a Nurse Practitioner in urgent care, emergency medicine, family practice, or comparable acute care environment
- National NP certification (FNP preferred)
- Current DEA registration and NPI number
- BLS and ACLS certification (PALS preferred)
- Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Perform comprehensive patient evaluations including history, physical exams, and medical decision-makingDiagnose and treat acute illnesses and minor injuries including respiratory infections, lacerations, fractures, sprains, burns, rashes, urinary symptoms, and gastrointestinal complaintsOrder, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests including X-rays, laboratory studies, and point-of-care testingPerform minor procedures including wound care, suturing, splinting, abscess incision and drainage, and foreign body removalPrescribe medications and treatments in accordance with licensure, protocols, and evidence-based practiceProvide patient education, discharge instructions, follow-up care planning, and referrals as neededCollaborate with the Medical Director and consulting physicians when clinically appropriateMaintain accurate, timely, and compliant medical documentationAdhere to clinic policies, safety standards, infection control procedures, and regulatory requirementsProfessional Judgment and Autonomy
Exercise independent clinical judgment within the scope of practicePrioritize patient care efficiently in a high-volume urgent care settingEscalate care or transfer patients to higher levels of care when medically indicatedWork Environment
