Survey CAD Technician
Overview :
The Survey CAD Technician supports licensed surveyors and field crews by processing field data, performing boundary and survey calculations, and preparing accurate survey drawings, exhibits, and plats. This position requires the ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and ensure all survey deliverables comply with applicable standards and regulations.
Duties / Responsibilities :
- Drafts boundary, ALTA / NSPS, topographic, construction staking, easement, and as-built surveys.
- Processes raw field data collected from GPS, total stations, and level runs.
- Performs boundary analysis, closure calculations, and record research under the supervision of a licensed surveyor.
- Prepares legal descriptions, survey exhibits, and related documents for municipal and county submittals.
- Prepares final plats for review and approval by municipalities and governing agencies.
- Researches jurisdictional submittal requirements and ensures plats and survey documents comply with all local and client requirements.
- Coordinates with field crews to resolve data discrepancies, clarify field conditions, and confirm survey intent.
- Manages multiple projects simultaneously while meeting established deadlines.
- Reviews drawings and documents for accuracy, completeness, and compliance prior to submittal.
- Maintains CAD standards, templates, and well-organized digital project files.
- Performs internal quality control checks prior to delivery.
- Assists the Survey Manager and licensed surveyors with redlines, revisions, and final deliverables.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills / Abilities :
Strong understanding of land surveying principles and practices.Ability to read and interpret plats, title reports, legal descriptions, and survey records.Proficiency in AutoCAD for survey drafting.Experience performing survey calculations and closure analysis.Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.Ability to manage workloads, prioritize tasks, and meet project deadlines.Effective written and verbal communication skills.Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.Experience using Carlson Survey software.Familiarity with ALTA / NSPS Land Title Survey standards.Experience preparing plats for municipal or county review and approval.Education and Experience :
Associate degree in surveying, civil engineering technology, drafting, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.Minimum of 2 years of experience in survey drafting or survey data processing preferred.Valid state driver’s license required.Physical Requirements :
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.This position reports directly to the Survey Manager.
