Description :
The Registered Nurse (RN) plans and provides comprehensive nursing care.
This includes executing orders from Licensed Independent Providers.
The RN is responsible for dispensing and administering medications.
The RN assists Licensed Independent Providers in examinations and treatment of patients.
Nursing and supervisory techniques are applied in the care and treatment of residents.
The RN performs all technical and clinical procedures as per their education and licensure.
Appropriate nursing skills are applied in the care of residents.
The RN attends sick calls with the physician to see residents.
Preparation of a list of residents to be examined is required.
The RN prepares the examining room and necessary equipment.
The RN operates pill call, dispenses medication, and documents as required.
Communication with Licensed Independent Providers for medication and treatment orders is necessary.
The RN examines and assesses new residents with illnesses or injuries.
Referrals to emergency services are made as required by the resident's condition.
Emergency procedures are performed as needed, and the Licensed Independent Provider is notified.
The RN assists in coordinating professional medical services provided by contract personnel.
Maintaining a good working relationship with facility staff and contract providers is essential.
Utilization of established policies and procedures is required for decision-making.
The RN regularly evaluates the provision of medical services.
Maintaining confidentiality of all medical records is mandatory.
The RN assists in reviewing medical files to ensure all services are documented.
Monitoring of potential catastrophic illnesses is essential.
The RN audits pharmacy use for adherence to formulary.
Compliance with pharmacy laws, particularly those regarding controlled substances, is required.
Observation and recording of resident behavior is part of the role.
Inspection of the medical unit for contraband is necessary.
Health counseling and education may be provided on an individual or group basis.
Record-keeping and document processing is required in a timely manner.
The RN must read, analyze, and interpret medical and technical procedures.
Engagement in court hearings may be necessary, where applicable.
Evaluation of physical safety requirements is part of the responsibilities.
Facilitation of accreditation for the medical program may be required.
Safety and accident reports are prepared as per protocols.
The RN may escort residents or coordinate movements to medical treatment areas.
Searching of individuals and objects for contraband may be required.
The RN may need to perform functions in confined areas and ensure security.
Actions to prevent or diffuse disruptive situations are necessary.
The RN performs rescue functions during emergencies, including administering basic medical aid.
