Position Summary
Clinton Investment Management is seeking a Municipal Credit Analyst to support the firms rapid growth of assets under management. Primary job responsibilities include performing detailed credit analysis for securities across multiple municipal sectors and with varying risk profiles. The analyst will help identify potential investment opportunities utilizing the firms investment thesis and philosophy and articulate credit opinions to internal and external stakeholders.
Core Responsibilities
Perform fundamental credit analysis for a complex portfolio of municipal issuers across the risk spectrum, including high yield
Surveil a portfolio of assigned credits within stipulated deadlines through analysis of periodic financial reports, news sources, management discussions, and other external sources to fulfill regulatory requirements
Recommend, through written reports and verbal communication, the potential suitability of specific municipal credits for individual portfolios and commingled funds
Develop, review, and maintain internal credit models to support analysis and trade recommendations
Effectively communicate with team members, rating agencies, broker / dealers and other industry players
Draft periodic credit commentaries on key market and industry developments
Perform special / ad hoc projects, as needed, to advance the research team and firms objectives
Qualifications
Three-to-five years of municipal credit analyst experience at buy / sell side firms, bond insurers, credit ratings agencies, issuers, etc. Other pertinent experience will be considered
Advanced analytical and quantitative skills, particularly an ability to navigate complex data sets and systems to assess credit risks
Knowledge of and interest in macroeconomic topics (economic, political, and legal) and their linkages to municipal securities
Excellent written and verbal communication skills to successfully articulate credit opinions to trading desk and clients
Strong intellectual curiosity, independent thinking, and ability to work collaboratively in team-based settings
Excellent time management / organizational skills and attention to detail
Education
Bachelors degree in a related field (economics, finance, public policy / administration, business, mathematics) is required
oAdvanced / masters degree is preferred
CFA or progress towards obtaining designation is a plus
Preferred Qualifications
Exposure to sectors such as charter schools, healthcare / CCRCs, transportation, higher education, tobacco, and project finance sectors is a plus
