The Process Engineer is responsible for developing, scaling, and optimizing manufacturing processes from research and development (R&D) input to full-scale production. This role serves as a key liaison between R&D, Planning, Manufacturing, Quality, and customers to ensure smooth transitions from laboratory formulations to commercial production. The Process Engineer troubleshoots problematic formulations, identifies areas for process improvements, and ensures compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
Responsibilities
- Interface with customers and / or R&D on laboratory processes.
- Develop manufacturing processes from R&D laboratory input and / or direct observation of lab batches.
- Work with Planning to determine appropriate manufacturing tanks and equipment for smooth transition to production.
- Observe pilot batches and first full production batches to verify procedures and ensure scalability.
- Collaborate with customers or development laboratories during pilot runs and scale-up to full-size batches.
- Assist with troubleshooting problematic formulations to ensure production success.
- Work with Manufacturing teams on continuous improvement of manufacturing processes.
- Partner with Quality Assurance to develop improved testing parameters for formulations.
- Support Production in establishing filling parameters for select formulas.
- Ensure all processes comply with company SOPs, cGMP, and safety requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Abilities
Strong technical knowledge of process engineering in a manufacturing or R&D environment.Ability to analyze and scale processes from laboratory to production effectively.Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.Strong communication skills, with the ability to interface effectively with internal teams and customers.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and relevant manufacturing systems / software.Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field required.3–5 years of experience in process engineering, preferably in the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, or manufacturing industries.Experience with process scale-up, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives required.Knowledge of cGMP, FDA regulations, and manufacturing documentation practices preferred.Physical Demands
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.Ability to stand, walk, and observe production processes for extended periods of time.Must be able to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.Ability to wear required PPE and work in production and laboratory environments.Working Conditions
