Overview

The pharmacy informatics manager leads the pharmacy informatics team to support safe and effective medication use, as well as manage the risks and changes associated with the development, implementation, safety, and use of systems that support medication management. They will have knowledge and skills in comprehending and evaluating organizational culture, managing change, working effectively in interdisciplinary teams, communicating, synthesizing user requirements, and articulating Pharmacy Informatics needs within the context of broad strategic goals.

Responsibilities

  • Informatics Operations - Serves as the institution's primary representative for current and future activities related to medication technology such as computerized provider order entry, bar coding at the point-of-care, robotics, unit-based medication cabinets, data integrity, interfaces, and updates and upgrades to existing and new software and hardware. Represents the institution in meetings with vendors of products and services related to medication technology. Interacts effectively with the managers, team leaders and project leaders from pharmacy, clinical informatics and Information technology departments. Maintains policies and procedures related to services managed. Regularly holds employee meetings with employees and is accessible at other times.
  • Department Operations - Participates in departmental planning, budget, recruiting, interviewing and orientation of department staff. Provides immediate, direct supervision by process defined by leadership to unlicensed pharmacy students, interns and residents.
  • Leadership - Assumes responsibilities of the Director of Pharmacy, as assigned, in his / her absence. Leads health-system, professional, industry, regulatory, standards-setting, and governmental organizations to sound conclusions regarding the use of technology in medication management. Leads and manages the evaluation and communication of the potential risks of a newly implemented technology and developing plans to mitigate potential hazards. Translating user requirements into safe and effective system designs. Implementing project management best practices.
  • Practice Analytics - Oversees and develops business intelligence(BI) and business analytics(BA) to include ensuring data are standardized, structured, and modeled to support a data-driven BI and BA culture. Creating effective analytics tools that allow for multiple formats and layers of analysis, from summary reports on individual patient encounters to an entire population of patients. Developing, maintaining, and ensuring the quality of clinical, operational, and financial dashboards, scorecards, screening tools, and surveillance tools to guide the achievement of treatment and strategic goals. Driving analytics to the frontline by creating greater end-user accessibility to BI and BA tools.
  • Monitoring the effectiveness of tools and information to deploy or further develop point-of-care or analytical. Compiles and generates reports accurately and on time.
  • Compliance and Regulatory - Has working knowledge of State and Federal laws and regulations affecting the practice of pharmacy. Stays up to date with State, CMS and Joint Commission requirements related to medication, informatics and safety.
  • Participates in informatics on-call coverage.
  • Maintains performance, patient and employee satisfaction and financial standards as outlined in the performance evaluation.
  • Performs compliance requirements as outlined in the Employee Handbook
  • Must adhere to the DCH Behavioral Standards including creating positive relationships with patients / families, coworkers, colleagues and with self.
  • Requires use of electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software and intranet.
  • Must adhere to all DCH Health System policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • PharmD or Bachelor's of Pharmacy degree required.
  • Current licensure as a pharmacist by reciprocity or examination for the Alabama State Board of Pharmacy is required. Must be fully licensed in Alabama within 60 days of hire.
  • Three (3) years Information technology or analysis experience required. Prior supervisory experience is preferred. Five (5) years of Information technology experience preferred. Pharmacy residency preferred.
  • Experience using word processing and spreadsheet software is required; database applications such as Microsoft Access or SQL desirable.
  • Project management skills required (ability to lead meetings, prioritize, resolve conflicts, maintain issue lists, manage project plan).
  • Strong Interpersonal skills and abilities to deal effectively with all levels of personnel are necessary. Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English. Strong time-management, organizational skills and project management.
