Position Information

The City of Brentwood is seeking a highly skilled, motivated, and collaborative professional to serve as its next Engineering Manager. Reporting to the Director of Engineering / City Engineer, this role provides leadership and oversight for all activities and operations within the City's Capital Improvement Program (CIP).

The Engineering Manager will supervise and support a team of professional and technical civil engineering staff involved in the planning, design, inspection, and construction of streets, City facilities, landscaping, lighting, and utility projects. This position manages all phases of the CIP process, including participation in stakeholder meetings, budgeting, environmental review, design, contract administration, construction, inspection, and final project acceptance.

Qualifications

Education and Experience :

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be :

Equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in civil engineering, public administration, business administration, or a related field.

Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in civil engineering or administering and managing engineering or public works programs; including two (2) years of supervisory experience.

Licenses and Certifications :

Depending on assignment, possession of a valid California Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record must be maintained throughout employment.

Possession of a valid Certificate of Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer in the State of California and registration must be maintained throughout employment.

The examination process will consist of :

Application Review â€" Submitted applications will be assessed based on job-related qualifications, including desirable qualifications and the specific needs of the hiring department. Candidates may be screened to identify those who are best qualified to proceed in the examination process.

Panel Board Interview â€" Those candidates identified as best qualified will be invited to a panel board interview, tentatively scheduled for the week of March 2, 2026.

Eligible List : All applicants that pass the examination process will be placed on the eligible list which is good for at least 6 months and may be extended up to an additional 18 months. This eligible list will be used by the City of Brentwood to fill all current and future openings in this classification as long as the list is active.
