About the Role

We’re seeking a Software Developer Team Lead to head development efforts for one of our product lines at Quilt. This role blends hands-on coding with team leadership and strategic guidance. You’ll be responsible for overseeing the technical direction of the product, managing a small team of 3 developers, and ensuring best practices are followed across the stack. This role will involve writing in full-stack PHP.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Lead and mentor a team of 3 developers
  • Manage sprint planning, task allocation, and code reviews
  • Foster a culture of clean code, maintainability, and continuous improvement
  • Work closely with the product team to prioritize and scope features

Engineering & Architecture

  • Write, review, and maintain high-quality code across the stack
  • Ensure backend services (built in PHP 8.1 using CakePHP) are efficient, secure, and scalable
  • Build and maintain modern frontend features using Vue.js
  • Identify and implement development best practices and coding standards
  • Guide CI / CD, deployment workflows, and version control processes

    • Project Oversight

  • Own the release cycle—ensure updates ship on time and with quality
  • Track technical debt and plan for refactors and architectural improvements
  • Stay up to date with evolving PHP and JS ecosystem trends to keep the platform modern

    • Tech Stack

  • Backend :  PHP 8.1, CakePHP
  • Frontend :  Vue.js (Composition API or Options API, depending on current setup)
  • Database :  MySQL
  • Infrastructure :  Apache, Linux
  • Tools :  Git, GitHub, CI / CD pipelines, Docker (if applicable)

    • Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience with PHP and MySQL in production environments
  • 2+ years of experience leading development teams or acting as a senior / lead developer
  • Strong experience with CakePHP (v3+ ideally)
  • Proficient in modern Vue.js (2.x or 3.x) and frontend tooling
  • Deep understanding of MVC architecture, REST APIs, and application lifecycle
  • Comfortable managing release processes, PR reviews, and team workflows
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative leadership style

    • Bonus Experience

  • Background in managing remote or hybrid teams
  • Familiarity with scheduling platforms, e-commerce systems, or ERP software
  • Experience with test-driven development, integration testing, and QA workflows
  • Passion for diving or knowledge of the diving industry
