Description : Candidates must be able to titrate cardiac drips. Travelers will need to pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to signing the contract with two maximum attempts allowed within 48 hours of the offer. Failure to pass will result in being sent home and a six-month do-not-utilize status for the specified regions. There is also a pass / fail simulation lab on the first day of orientation. If travelers fail the simulation, they will be sent home and placed on a six-month do-not-utilize status. Floating between all telemetry and medical-surgical units is required. Depending on skill level, nurses may float to ICU, cardiac telemetry, as well as all telemetry, medical-surgical, and holding areas. Possible floating to other facilities and notification will be provided 1.5 hours prior to shift start. Mid-shift floating to different units can occur. Rarely, floating to another facility within a single shift can happen. Travel time between facilities is approximately 15 minutes. Clock-out and clock-in procedures are required when moving between facilities. Orientation includes two days on the designated floor. Common diagnoses and patient types include post-catheterization lab, post-vascular procedures, day two CABG patients, and general telemetry cases. No pediatrics; the minimum patient age is 15 years. Telemetry units require nurses to interpret EKGs. Desired competencies include familiarity with amiodarone, cardene, nitro, heparin, and dobutamine titration only for down titration. Charge nurses will not take patient assignments. Patients are cared for at a ratio of 1 : 3-4 in telemetry units. 24 / 7 support includes respiratory therapy and pharmacy. Nurses are expected to provide care on both weekends and holidays per policy. Dress code includes navy scrubs. The environment provides telemetry with centralized monitoring and requires nurses to communicate effectively as part of the care team.
