Position Summary
Client is seeking a UX / Interaction Designer V for a client in Chicago, IL. This Lead Designer - UX role is responsible for driving design excellence and strategic vision, leading cross-functional initiatives, and mentoring design talent. The position sets design direction, manages complex experience design efforts, and fosters a culture of design excellence across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Define and communicate design vision and strategy for large, multi-platform initiatives, aligning user needs with business objectives
Mentor and develop design talent by providing coaching, feedback, and career guidance while maintaining high design standards
Collaborate cross-functionally with product, engineering, and leadership teams to advocate user-centered decision-making and manage competing priorities
Lead complex experience design initiatives, ensuring consistency across omnichannel user journeys, devices, platforms, and touchpoints
Establish and maintain design standards, principles, patterns, and quality guidelines for scalable and maintainable solutions
Oversee high-fidelity prototyping efforts and partner with research teams to integrate user insights
Contribute to the evolution and governance of the design system, including pattern development
Required Skills (Must Have)
10+ years of experience with mandatory lead-level design experience
Airline industry experience
Subject matter expertise in design principles, visual systems, and best practices, including advanced layout, typography, and color theory
Deep knowledge of emerging UI trends, tools, and technologies with the ability to evaluate and implement new approaches
Extensive experience designing for web, mobile, and emerging platforms
Primary Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; advanced degree in Design, HCI, or a related field preferred
6-10 years of UX / UI design experience, including at least 3 years in a senior or lead role
Proven experience leading and mentoring design teams
Portfolio demonstrating strategic contributions and impact on complex design projects
Strong communication and presentation skills with senior stakeholders
Advanced proficiency with design and prototyping tools such as Figma and Adobe Creative Cloud
Expertise in accessibility standards (WCAG) and inclusive design practices
Demonstrated success collaborating with product, research, and engineering teams
Experience with design strategy, planning, and resource management
Ability to balance user needs, technical constraints, and business priorities
Strong leadership presence, conflict-resolution skills, and ability to manage multiple complex projects
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in large-scale or highly complex product environments
Strong visual design expertise, including typography, layout, and color systems
Experience with user research and usability testing methodologies
Familiarity with front-end technologies across major platforms
