Software Developer 3 (Simulator Engineer)

Location & Schedule : Onsite daily Monday – Friday from 8 am – 5 pm in the north metro area of Eugene, OR.

Pay and Benefits :

  • The target pay range for this position is $108,908 - $131,441 annually. The full pay range is $97,642 - $152,722 annually.
  • Benefits include PTO, 401k, long term and short-term disability, along with medical, dental, and vision coverage.

POSITION SUMMARY : This position will be working within the Plant Operations department assisting in the development of the software models that supports the company control room simulator. This position will work in close collaboration with company operators and engineers to support a range of software development tasks such as updating plant models in accordance with engineering documentation. Ideal candidate is familiar with the GSE software suite SimExec and JTopmeret), has experience with thermal hydraulic system codes RELAP5 and Trace), and has experience with neutronic analysis codes Simulate 3 and MCNP). Additionally, knowledge of electrical systems and ability to model breakers, busses, and electrical devices highly desirable.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

High standard to accurately reflect information from engineering documentation into plant models.

Supports development, testing and operation of the company control room simulator and other software projects.

Develops software in accordance with company established procedures and processes to maintain configuration control.

Documents software defects using issue tracking software.

Provides recommended solutions when errors are encountered and seeks to identify common cause issues that affect performance of the software solution.

Provides recommended solutions for problems using professional operational principles and company objectives.

Works under consultative direction toward long-range goals and objectives. Collaborates with team members to ensure solutions are vetted and deliverables are of high quality.

Performs hardware setup and maintenance such as installing computers / monitors and connecting cables. This may at times require limited travel to other locations outside of Corvallis at company’s expense.

Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES :

Education : A minimum of a degree in computer science, physics, engineering or other technical degree from an accredited college or university is required. ABET accredited engineering program preferred.

Experience : Minimum of 5 years of full-time professional software development experience is required, with at least three years of demonstrable software deliverables with a focus on modeling and simulator development. Working with thermal hydraulic and neutronic analysis software is highly desirable. Additional required and preferred experience includes :

Working knowledge of an integrated development environment such as Visual Studio or Visual Studio Code and a revision control system such as Git is required

Previous experience with project management systems like Gitlab or Github is required

Experience with developing software in Fortran, C++, and / or Python is required

Previous experience with GSE simulation software SimExec, JTopmeret, JElectric) is required

Previous experience with thermal hydraulic system codes RELAP5 and Trace) is preferred

Previous experience with neutronic analysis codes Simulate 3 and MCNP) is preferred

Demonstrable understanding of basic thermal hydraulic engineering principles is preferred

Demonstrable understanding of basic numerical methods to solve coupled partial differential equations associated with fluid flow and heat transfer is preferred

Demonstrable aptitude to read and interpret P&ID drawings is preferred

Industry Requirements : Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.
