SUMMARY We are seeking a dedicated Nurse Practitioner to join our Behavioral Health Department. Under the general supervision of the designated ER Physician : plans, directs, and evaluates resident and employee health care in behavioral health. Examines and treats chronic and acute episodic illnesses, minor injuries, accidents, and other injuries / illnesses. Performs selected laboratory testing, referrals to physicians as needed, writes prescriptions, and performs office procedures within the scope of expertise, protocols, and available equipment. Works with the medical director in the care and treatment of patients and staff. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Sees Behavioral Health patients for selected laboratory testing, examination, diagnosis, and treatment of both chronic and acute episodic illnesses and minor injuries. Refers to physician as needed. Writes prescriptions and performs office procedures within the scope of expertise, protocols, and available equipment. Performs physical examinations (Pap tests, etc.) Coordinates health promotional activities (providing printed information, routine testing, flu shots, mammograms, etc.) Acts as a resource person for decisions, planning, and policies affecting the health of patients and staff. Compiles necessary reports concerning Behavioral Health at facility. Serves as a staff in-service resource. Performs other related duties as assigned. Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and Hospital regulations, laws, and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified. QUALIFICATIONS Required : 3-5 years' experience required Successful completion of an approved nurse practitioner or physician assistant program. Current approval by the joint Board of Medical Examiners and Board of Nursing to perform medical acts. Must be currently licensed as a registered nurse in the state. Because of the nature of responsibilities, it is preferable to have experience in counseling and teaching and have a master's degree. PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand and walk as well as occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Using proper body mechanics, the employee may be expected to lift, pull, push or move patients and / or equipment. Fine motor skills are required when using hands and fingers to handle, feel or reach. Normal or corrected vision, hearing and ability to speak are necessary. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, sharp eye focus and ability to distinguish colors. There will be periods of stressful intense concentration with more than average pressure used in a variety of problem-solving situations.
