Position Overview :

The Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice is looking for a highly energetic candidate who is self-motivated and has the working knowledge of the principles practices and techniques for operations of high-pressure coal gas or oil-fired boilers and how to regulate them. The incumbent in this position will also be responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the powerhouse equipment. The incumbent will also assist in emergency repairs. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to manage several functions and / or assigned tasks in the Engineering Department at IYC St. Charles / PEACE Center. This position would be an excellent fit for someone with a passion and a strong background in maintenance. We encourage all qualified candidates to apply!

Essential Functions :

• Operates and maintains powerhouse equipment such as boilers feed pumps tower pumps wells water softeners air compressors switchgear water heaters and the emergency generator.
• Test facility domestic water supply boiler water cooling tower chiller de-alkalizer and heating system.
• Maintains daily power plant reports.
• Assist in emergency repairs cited by management.
• Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

The mission of the Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice (IDJJ) is to build youth skills and strengthen families by promoting community safety and positive youth outcomes. Over 900 staff members from across various departmentssecurity programming education mental health and morecollaborate with the understanding that youth are physically emotionally and cognitively different from adults. The department provides extensive services to young people through a developmental treatment-focused model of care that builds youth resiliency engages families and promotes community safety at the five youth facilities it operates across the state. IDJJ serves and houses approximately 150 youth and is responsible for approximately 500 youth on Aftercare in various Illinois communities.

Work Hours : Shifts will be variable based on season. Shifts are bid by Seniority so shifts and days off change.
