Job Description

The primary role of a Phlebotomist is to assist in performing various duties, troubleshoot issues, provide training, and make workflow recommendations. The position involves working in a fast-paced environment and requires excellent customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data.
• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
• Explain venipuncture and specimen collection processes in a clear and courteous manner.
• Demonstrate techniques using straight and butterfly needles.
• Understand all physicians' orders and match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
• Ensure accuracy by checking all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts.
• Package specimens for transport and store them at the required temperature.
• Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and attend annual department training.
• Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Work Environment

Phlebotomists will cover the Birmingham / Hoover / Tuscaloosa area, working as travelers / floater and for IOP accounts. The position requires the ability to drive up to one hour, with mileage expenses covered. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM, with a one-hour lunch break. Phlebotomists will be working at fast-paced sites, drawing and processing blood, urine, and other specimens, with an expected 35-40 draws per day. Good customer service is essential.

This is a Contract position based out of Birmingham, AL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.75 - $18.50 / hr.
