The Unemployment Insurance (UI) Division is responsible for administering the state UI program under the oversight of the United States Department of Labor (USDOL). This includes the collection of UI contributions / taxes from employers on a quarterly basis, and the distribution of unemployment compensation to New Mexicans who have lost their jobs through no fault of their own and meet various eligibility requirements. The Division executes these functions via robust self-service web services, as well as through staff assisted services via the UI Operations Center.
Why does the job exist?
The administration of the UI program is primarily federally funded and is supplemented with state general fund support. The UI program provides unemployment compensation benefits to workers who are unemployed through no fault of their own and meet certain eligibility requirements. Approximately 7,000 new individuals are certifying for UI benefits every week, with 9,363 individuals on weekly continued claims. Currently 53,796 employers are making quarterly contributions to the New Mexico UI trust fund.
How does it get done?
Interview employer to gather necessary information related to unemployment insurance, suspensions, benefit eligibility, wage reporting, employer tax rates and all other issues related to the unemployment insurance program. Issue determinations to include correcting existing determinations for issues regarding employer accounts including experience transfers, legal name changes, suspensions, reactivations, adjustments, refund requests and monetary. Resolve discrepancies on employer accounts.
Who are the customers?
Employers and claimants of the State of New Mexico as well as staff within the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions.
Ideal Candidate
Must have strong customer service skills and communication skills. Must be able to speak and build rapport with internal and external customers, must be able to communicate in email and written correspondence effectively.
Must have strong understanding of UI claims and employer accounts.
Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Must be able to work in a team to performs job functions, support, train, and improve processes.
Must be able to multitask from multiple environments throughout the day, week, month, and quarter.
Must be able to prioritize and complete tasks quickly and efficiently.
Must be able to organize multiple projects at once.
Bi-lingual preferred.
Minimum Qualification
High school diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of experience in bookkeeping, accounting, finance, auditing, collections, and / or tax-related field. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and / or direct experience in this occupation totaling one (1) year may substitute for the required experience.

Working Conditions
This position is located in the Unemployment Insurance (UI) Operations inbound call center. Work is performed in an open floor office concept, call center environment with exposure to Visual / Video Display Terminal (VDT), extensive personal computer and phone usage, moderate noise, and possible dust. Extended sitting and some bending and reaching may be required.
