Position Title : Oncology Medical Scribe
Department : Clinical Services
Reports To : Medical Provider / Practice Manager
FLSA Status : Non-Exempt

Position Summary
The Oncology Medical Scribe provides real-time documentation support to oncology providers by accurately recording patient encounters in the electronic medical record (EMR). This role enhances provider efficiency, supports regulatory compliance, and ensures complete and timely clinical documentation. The Medical Scribe does not provide direct patient care and works under the supervision of licensed healthcare professionals in accordance with California scope-of-practice regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Accompany providers during patient visits and document :
- History of present illness (HPI)
- Review of systems (ROS)
- Physical examination findings
- Assessment and treatment plans
- Enter documentation into the EMR accurately and promptly
- Prepare patient charts prior to visits, including review of :
- Laboratory results
- Imaging reports
- Pathology reports
- Prior clinical notes
- Track and pend orders for provider review and signature (labs, imaging, medications, referrals)
- Assist with oncology-specific documentation including :
- Treatment plans and protocols
- Follow-up and care coordination notes
- Ensure all documentation complies with clinical, regulatory, and quality standards
- Maintain strict patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and California privacy laws
- Respond to provider requests during patient encounters
- Support clinic workflow and efficiency
- Perform clerical and documentation-related duties as assigned

Required :
High school diploma or equivalentKnowledge of medical terminologyStrong computer and typing skillsAbility to maintain confidentiality and professionalismExcellent attention to detail and organizationPreferred :
Prior experience as a medical scribe or in a medical officeCoursework or degree in health sciences, biology, nursing, or related fieldFamiliarity with oncology terminology and EMR systemsSkills and Competencies
