Summary of Job Purpose

\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\n\n\n

The RN Supervisor is responsible to maintain the nursing philosophy, objectives, and standards of quality nursing care; and ensure compliance with standards, codes, rules and regulations, and the policies set-forth by Mountainside.

\n\n\n\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t

  • Administrative functions : \n\n\t \n\t\t

Notifies the Director of Nursing and Administrator on call as required.

\n\t\t

  • Participates actively with IDT and follows-through on actions determined by the Team.
  • \n\t\t

  • Is responsible for every resident in the facility.
  • \n\t\t

  • Serves as a resident advocate and ensures resident rights are maintained.
  • \n\t\t

  • Supports the medical staff.
  • \n\t\t

  • Works collaboratively with all departments at Mountainside and MMH.
  • \n\t\t

  • Works with staff in the planning of the units services, programs, and activities.
  • \n\t\t

  • Ensures consistency between both floors in nursing care.
  • \n\t\t

  • Ensures staff comply with polices and standards of care.
  • \n\t\t

  • Ensures completeness of Accident and Incident reports.
  • \n\t\t

  • Promotes mission and values of Mountainside.
  • \n\t\t

  • Serves as a leader and resource for nursing staff.
  • \n\t\t

  • Participates in investigations as assigned.
  • \n\t\t

  • Ensures safe quality care is provided to the residents daily, and essential information is communicated to provide appropriate continuity of care from admission to discharge.
  • \n\t\t

  • Is a liaison with residents, families, and other departments to adequately plan for and provide resident care.
  • \n\t\t

  • Guides LPN Nurse Managers, LPNs, and CNAs responsibilities.
  • \n\t\t

  • Ensures accurate, appropriate, and complete documentation by all nursing staff.
  • \n\t \n\t

    \n\t

  • Care Plan, Kardex, MDS, and Assessment\n\t \n\t\t
  • Ensures accuracy of each.

    \n\t\t

  • Completes timely as assigned.
  • \n\t\t

  • Effectively communicates the plan of care.
  • \n\t\t

  • Ensures that resident care plan is followed.
  • \n\t \n\t

    \n\t

  • Communication : \n\t \n\t\t
  • Ensures appropriate and ongoing communication to the resident, family, staff, MD, IDT, etc.

    \n\t\t

  • Uses communication to enhance quality of resident care and staff working environment.
  • \n\t \n\t

    \n\t

  • Personnel / Staff Development\n\t \n\t\t
  • Assists with employee evaluations, employee praise, and discipline as necessary.

    \n\t\t

  • Actively participates with staff education.
  • \n\t\t

  • Promotes an environment of learning.
  • \n\t\t

  • Ensures staff attends mandatory inservices and meets minimum continuing education requirements.
  • \n\t\t

  • Conducts routine staff audits to ensure care is being delivered per care plan and medical staff orders.
  • \n\t\t

  • Ensures work consistency among staff.
  • \n\t\t

  • Promotes a positive, friendly work environment.
  • \n\t \n\t

    \n\t

  • Equipment and Supplies : \n\t \n\t\t
  • Ensures appropriate are available and monitors that supplies are utilized appropriately to avoid waste.

    \n\t\t

  • Is cost-effective.
  • \n\t \n\t

    \n\t

  • Policy and Procedure Manuals\n\t \n\t\t
  • Ensures staff awareness of manuals, including other departments (e.g. MSDS, emergency protocols).

    \n\t\t

  • Uses manual and assists other staff on using policies as necessary.
  • \n\t \n\t

    \n\t

  • Quality Assurance : \n\t \n\t\t
  • Constantly strives to enhance the resident and staff experience.

    \n\t\t

  • Reports and completes necessary paperwork for each resident incident / accident / change in condition.
  • \n\t \n\t

    \n\t

  • Safety / Infection Control : \n\t \n\t\t
  • Ensures staff compliance with standards and regulations.

    \n\t\t

  • Reports potential outbreaks and takes appropriate measures to control / eliminate infection control exposures.
  • \n\t \n\t

    \n\t

  • Staffing Coverage\n\t \n\t\t
  • Required to ensure appropriate coverage for the nursing department 24 / 7, including weekends, holidays, and off-shifts.

    \n\t\t

  • Is RN on-call when there is not an RN in-house.
  • \n\t\t

  • Works beyond normal working hours, or in other positions temporarily when necessary (e.g. administers medications).
  • \n\t\t

  • Is subject to callback during emergency conditions.
  • \n\t\t

  • Takes RN on-call as needed.
  • \n\t \n\t

    \n\t

    Essential Job Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing as a RN
  • \n \n\n

    Experience : \n\n \n\t

  • 2 years clinical experience
  • \n \n\n

    Training / License : \n\n \n\t

  • NYS RN License
  • \n \n\n

    Other : \n\n \n\t

  • BLS, basic computer skills
  • \n \n
