Tajikeimɨk is the new and developing health and wellness organization that is leading health transformation on behalf of Mi’kmaw communities in Nova Scotia. In collaboration with Chiefs, Grand Council, and Health Directors, Tajikeimɨk will build on and evolve the health and wellness services and programs used by Mi’kmaw people in Nova Scotia; improve health service delivery; and strengthen coordination with Federal and Provincial health system partners—with the goal of improving overall health for Mi’kmaq and communities.

Position overview :
Tajikeim i k is seeking an experienced and creative Graphic Designer to create high-quality visual materials that reflect Mi’kmaw culture and values, convey Tajikeim i k initiatives to diverse audiences, and ensure consistency in branding and design. Reporting to the Director of Communications and Engagement, this position will create engaging content that strengthens connection with Mi’kmaw communities and health system partners across Nova Scotia.
What you’ll do :
Specific responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to :
Collaborate with the Communications and Engagement team to design and produce digital and print materials, and promotional assets.
Ensure Mi’kmaw culture and world view is central to visual communications.
Ensure consistent branding and design across materials, to build and maintain a strong organizational identity.
Provide design support to internal teams by building and managing templates, tools and assets to assist them in creating branded communication materials.
Manage multiple design projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
Participate in brainstorming / collaboration sessions to generate new ideas and concepts.
Build positive relationships with Tajikeim i k teams and health system partners.
Work with communications service providers and external print and promotional vendors to ensure quality materials and assets.
Other related duties and projects as part of the Tajikeim i k team.
College diploma or university degree in graphic design or a related field. An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.
Two years experience, preferably with an Indigenous organization, and a strong portfolio showcasing work.
Advanced skills in design software (PC platform), specifically Adobe Creative Suite and other relevant tools.
Proficient in modern office technologies, including Microsoft Office, MS Teams, and Zoom.
Experience with website design and content management system software would be considered an asset.
Ability to speak and write in Mi’kmaw would be considered an asset.
Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel throughout Nova Scotia.
An up-to-date Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Check, and Child Abuse Registry Check.
What we’re looking for :
Experience leading and creating compelling graphic design projects, while maintaining brand standards and ensuring the design alignment to an organization’s mission and values.
Solid understanding of design principles, brand consistency and visual storytelling.
Strong ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners to create culturally appropriate designs.
Expertise creating designs for digital and print deliverables for a variety of uses, including social media, websites, events and promotional materials.
Experience in designing for Indigenous communities or organizations, with a focus on thoughtful, culturally appropriate approaches.
Strong foundation in typography, layout and composition.
Knowledge of ethical design principles, ensuring respect for intellectual property rights and the cultural significance of artwork.
Familiarity with current visual design and social media trends, with a willingness to stay informed about emerging practices.
Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities to effectively meet tight deadlines.
Knowledge and support of Tajikeim i k’s vision and mission, with a personal commitment to advancing Mi’kmaw health and wellness through self-determination.
Experience in video creation / production would be considered an asset.
Experience in photography would be considered an asset.
