Registered Nurse (RN) - Med-Surg (Night Shift)

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse for a 13-week contract assignment. The ideal candidate will provide comprehensive nursing care to adult patients with a wide range of medical and post-operative conditions in a fast-paced hospital environment. Strong clinical judgment, adaptability, and effective communication skills are essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality nursing care to adult medical-surgical patients
• Perform comprehensive patient assessments and develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans
• Administer medications and manage IV therapies, including heparin, magnesium, and potassium riders
• Monitor patient conditions and promptly recognize and respond to changes
• Collaborate effectively with physicians, case management, and the interdisciplinary healthcare team
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in Meditech
• Adhere to hospital policies, nursing standards, and patient safety guidelines
• Serve as charge nurse when assigned

Patient Population

• Adult medical-surgical patients
• Common diagnoses include sepsis, COPD, CHF, post-operative recovery, plastics, and general medical conditions
• ALC (Awaiting Long-Term Care placement) patients
• Typical nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5-6

Requirements

• Active New York State RN license
• Minimum one successful travel assignment completed (first-time travelers not considered)
• BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Meditech experience required
• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
• Strong organizational, communication, and critical-thinking skills
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment
