Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med / Surg night shift position requiring an active IL RN license and Med / Surg nursing skills.

Responsibilities

Work in an acute care hospital setting on a 29-bed Med / Surg unit

Patient population includes a wide range of medical diagnoses such as GI bleeds, sepsis, cellulitis, CHF, COVID, DVT, pulmonary embolisms, and elderly fall patients

Typical nurse-to-patient ratios are 4-5 : 1 on days and 5-6 : 1 on nights

Unit features a mix of private and semi-private rooms

Patients monitored via remote telemetry; unit uses Phillips monitors

EPIC is used for charting

12-hour night shifts (7p-7a) with shift reports at 7a and 7p

Every other weekend and holiday rotation required

No call or standby requirements

Travel RNs are first to float as needed to other Med / Surg-like units, excluding ICU and chemotherapy care

Unit provides a 2-shift orientation for incoming RNs

Charge RN, crisis RN, and administrative supervisor available 24 / 7 as resources

24-hour PCT coverage with a PCT ratio of 1 : 10

No ventilators; oxygen support up to 6L NC and stable BiPAP / CPAP

Any color scrubs allowed; staff supply their own

Rotation of holidays and floating required as assigned

RNs are expected to support IV starts, with phlebotomy team available for blood draws

No COVID vaccination required for this assignment

Local candidates within 50 miles are qualified and offered a local pay rate

Requirements

Active IL RN license required at time of consideration

Current BLS certification required

Minimum of 2 years recent Med / Surg experience required

Ability to titrate heparin drips

Experience with EPIC EMR preferred

Willingness to attempt IV starts and utilize unit resources as needed
