SCOPE OF POSITION :
Works in a supervised capacity within the routine job description, tailored to specific program needs. Requires skills or experience working with people. Ability to work with minimal supervision and as directed. High personal standards of cleanliness, thoroughness, and attention to detail. Physical ability to satisfactorily complete all tasks in an efficient manner. Must be able to work effectively within the environment of people in crisis. All responsibilities are under the supervision of the Facilities Manager in coordination with the Corps Officers, who will monitor for accuracy and adherence to policies and procedures of The Salvation Army.
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE :
- High school diploma or equivalent level required; degree preferred
- Previous janitorial or maintenance experience
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED :
Must be able to pass a criminal background checkMust possess identification documents sufficient for hiring as required by the Department of Homeland SecurityMust be able to readily communicate problems verbally or in writing to immediate supervisorESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES :
Adhere to daily check list for cleaning and maintenance of buildings and grounds as determined by seasons and event schedulesDaily sweeping and mopping of all common areas, offices, lobby, etc.Vacuum all office spaces and hallways, as neededDust and straighten furnishings, as neededEmpty trash receptacles in meeting rooms, warehouse, food bank, offices, labs, breakrooms, and restroomsClean all restrooms, breakrooms, floors, fixtures, and surfaces dailyStock paper products and soap dispensersWeekly window cleaning in all spaces of both buildingsKeep supplies adequately stocked in the janitorial closetsAssist Career Path, volunteers and staff with the proper methods, chemicals, and techniques for building custodial dutiesKeep building exterior patrolled for trash, cleanliness, and repair problemsReport all graffiti, repair problems, or hazardous conditions to the Facilities Manager promptlyPerform snow removal and apply de-ice products as needed during working hoursStrip, wax, or burnish ceramic and VCT tiled areas as directed on a periodic basisReplace burned out light bulbs as necessary in all buildingsOperate all necessary cleaning equipment, hand tools, and apparatus to perform custodial dutiesAssist with Stepping Stones unit turnoverHousekeeping and maintenance for Corps apartmentPerforms other duties as assignedPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basisAbility to grasp, push, pull, objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, carts, doors, and reach overheadAbility to operate varied maintenance equipment (floor care, snow blower, lawn care equipment)Ability to operate a telephone and other office equipmentAbility to access and produce information from a computerAbility to understand written informationAbility to lift up to 40lbs on a regular basisAbility to sweep, clean, shovel snow, and perform other janitorial tasks as neededQualified individuals must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.
