Position Summary:
The pharmacy technician position is responsible for accurate prescription preparation, counting, packing, and filling under the supervision of the pharmacist.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assists the pharmacist in the dispensing of prescriptions, counting, packaging and labeling unit doses for inspection by pharmacist.
- Checks in items ordered and received, places stock on shelves or in refrigerator, when required.
- Fills bins with prescription vials and ensures adequate supplies of ancillary items required for prescription dispensing are available.
- Checks items for appropriate ‘shelf life’ remaining before expiration.
- Cleans pharmacy shelves and work areas and maintains entire premises in a satisfactory state of cleanliness.
- Maintains the cleanness and accuracy of pump and/or other devices in the pharmacy according to the company policy.
- Assists purchasers with maintaining medication supplies by reporting when items are near or below par level.
- Checks stock to remove outdated items.
- Performs audit related activities.
- Answers in-coming phone calls, initiates phone calls for pharmacists when needed, and assists in other departments when necessary.
- Accountable to perform department tasks on a consistent basis.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Skills and Qualification Requirements: - High School graduate with at least one year’s experience in related field.
- Pharmacy technician license from the California State Board of Pharmacy.
- Knowledge of inventory processes.
- Ability to work under close supervision.
- Training needs – as required for development and continued growth.
Preferred Requirements:
- Hazardous drug preparation experience
- Specialty/Oncology dispensing experience
