FOOD SERVICE WORKER – SCHOOL CAFETERIA SUPPORT (DISD)

Location Dallas, TX | Onsite – Various School Campuses

COMPENSATION & SCHEDULE

  • $15.14 / hour
  • Maximum 7 hours per shift
  • Shifts vary by school level : 6 : 30 a.m.–2 : 00 p.m. - 3p.m.
  • Employees may work fewer than 7 hours depending on campus needs

ROLE IMPACT

This position supports school nutrition operations by ensuring students receive healthy meals in a clean and organized cafeteria environment. Food Service Workers contribute directly to the daily success of the district’s meal programs by preparing, serving, and maintaining food safety standards while fostering a positive, team-oriented atmosphere.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve breakfast and lunch to students in accordance with district guidelines.
  • Stock and put away groceries and food supplies upon delivery.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the cafeteria, kitchen, and serving areas.
  • Assist with food preparation, dishwashing, and other assigned duties.
  • Follow all district safety, hygiene, and sanitation procedures.

    • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior experience in food service, cafeteria, or hospitality setting preferred.
  • Ability to stand, bend, and lift moderate weights throughout the shift.
  • Reliable attendance and adherence to assigned schedules.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe and sanitary food environment.

    • EQUIPMENT & WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Commercial kitchen and cafeteria equipment (ovens, warmers, dishwashers).
  • Frequent standing and walking in a fast-paced environment.
  • Moderate lifting and carrying of food and supply items.

    • DRESS CODE REQUIREMENTS

  • DISD Badge – must be presented on the first day.
  • Black pants and white collared polo shirt.
  • Black, slip-resistant, closed-toe shoes.
  • White, navy, or plastic apron (no writing permitted).
  • Clear “stadium” bag or purse only.
  • No nail polish, artificial nails, or false eyelashes.
  • Small, dime-sized earrings only; no dangling jewelry.

    • PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Experience working in school nutrition or institutional food service.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of food safety and handling standards.
