Newberry Tanks & Equipment is a leading steel tank fabricator serving the oil jobber, agriculture, industrial, and equipment contractors nationwide. We manufacture steel petroleum storage tanks, bulk oil dispensing tanks and distribute accessory equipment. The company was founded in 1927 in Memphis, Tennessee. We are looking for a part-time intern to work with our Maintenance Supervisor on a project for maintenance parts inventory.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The Engineering Intern will support the Maintenance Department in establishing and maintaining a repair parts inventory management system. This role is designed for a student who is pursuing technical or business coursework and is interested in applying organizational and computer skills in a manufacturing environment. The intern will begin with a project-based focus on setting up the system and may transition into ongoing maintenance and/or engineering responsibilities depending on performance and availability.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Phase 1 – System Setup (Project-Focused)
- Organize and label shelves, bins, and storage areas for quick and accurate retrieval of parts.
- Identify, catalog, and record all existing spare parts into spreadsheets or CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System).
- Work with maintenance and purchasing teams to define critical spare parts, minimum stock levels, and reorder points.
- Assist in removing obsolete, damaged, or duplicate parts and document appropriately.
- Develop clear and user-friendly inventory tracking methods.
Phase 2 – Ongoing Maintenance and/or Engineering Support (Based on Phase 1 Success).
QUALIFICATIONS
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate or associates degree program in an engineering, industrial technology, computer science or other related field
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Strong computer skills (MS Office: Excel, Teams, SharePoint); experience with CMMS or inventory software is a plus
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs. and stand for extended periods as needed
- Previous experience in inventory control, warehouse, or parts management is helpful but not required
SCHEDULE & DURATION
- Part-time position (10–20 hours per week) with flexible scheduling to accommodate class commitments.
- Internship duration: one semester, with potential to extend based on project needs and performance.
