Supervises : Over 7 QA Technicians, 5 Sanitation Technicians, and 1 Housekeeping Associate
Duties and Responsibilities
The Quality Assurance Manager oversees regulatory compliance, customer satisfaction, and internal quality standards at our manufacturing plant in Mobile, AL. This role collaborates with plant leadership to drive continuous improvement and foster a culture of food safety and operational excellence.
Main Responsibilities and Tasks
Partner with plant leadership to ensure commitment to quality assurance and food safety programs. Promote a culture of quality throughout the facility.
Enhance sanitation practices and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) in collaboration with leadership to uphold standards.
Establish internal audit schedules, develop corrective actions, and monitor compliance with GFSI, BRC, AIB, and customer requirements.
Prepare for third-party audits and regulatory inspections to maintain readiness at all times.
Integrate HACCP and FSMA principles into production processes to align with food safety programs.
Analyze root causes and implement preventive actions for customer complaints and production issues.
Manage the Quality department budget and track performance metrics.
Oversee QA procedures, including testing and inventory management, to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
Lead and develop the QA and Sanitation teams to maintain high performance standards.
Act as the primary contact for USDA and FDA inspections and maintain positive relationships with regulators.
Supervise daily lab activities and maintain QA documentation and inventory.
Other duties as assigned by the Director of Quality Assurance & Food Safety.
Qualifications and Skills
Education :
Bachelors degree required; Masters degree preferred.
Experience & Skills :
At least 10 years of experience in the food industry, with 5 years in quality management.
Strong understanding of food safety regulations and compliance requirements.
Certified Internal Auditor with auditing experience.
Proven track record of leading and developing teams.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
Ability to work collaboratively across functions.
Experience with document management systems and quality programs preferred.
Six Sigma certification a plus.
Physical Requirements
Ability to work in a food manufacturing environment with exposure to allergens and temperature extremes.
Prolonged periods of sitting and computer work.
Occasional lifting up to 15 pounds.
Work Environment
Combination of office and manufacturing plant settings.
Travel Requirements
Up to 10% travel required.
