Job Summary :
The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for decontaminating, inspecting, assembling, packaging, sterilizing, storing, and distributing medical and surgical instruments and equipment. This role requires a strong understanding of sterilization principles, infection control practices, and the operation of various sterilization equipment. The technician must maintain accurate records and ensure the availability of sterile supplies for surgical and other clinical areas.

Responsibilities :
- Decontaminates, cleans, and disinfects surgical instruments and equipment.
- Inspects instruments for damage, cleanliness, and proper function.
- Assembles instrument trays and sets according to established protocols.
- Packages instruments and equipment for sterilization.
- Operates and monitors various sterilization equipment, including autoclaves (Getinge, Amsco), Steris V-Pro, and Steris System 1e.
- Performs biological and chemical testing to ensure proper sterilization.
- Maintains accurate records of sterilization cycles, maintenance, and quality control.
- Stores and distributes sterile supplies to designated areas.
- Operates Getinge 86 series washer and Triton 72 ultrasonic cleaner.
- Prioritizes workload to meet the needs of the surgical schedule and other clinical areas.
- Answers unit phone and directs calls accordingly.
- Performs data entry into electronic medical database systems. Documents patient care and related duties appropriately.
- Performs selected patient registration activities.
- Coordinates equipment / supply needs. Notifies appropriate department of equipment malfunction.
- Performs any other related duties (e.g., clerical, technical duties) as assigned.
Required Skills & Certifications :
Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Sterile Processing Technician.BLS certification.CBSPD or HSPA certification.Experience with Da Vinci Xi surgical system.Experience with Getinge Autoclave, Amsco Autoclave, Steris V-Pro, Steris System 1e, Getinge 86 series washer, Triton 72 ultrasonic cleanerPreferred Skills & Certifications :
5 years of experience as a Sterile Processing Technician.3 years of experience in a shift lead role in a hospital setting.Special Considerations :
Must be willing to float between different areas as needed.On-call shifts are required.Locals are welcome within a 50-mile radius.No first-time travelers.Scheduling :
5x8 hour shifts.Shifts are variable and include : 0500-1330, 0630-1500, 0700-1530, 1000-1830, 1330-2200, 1900-0330, 2200-0630.On-call shifts : 2200-0700 weekdays, 0700-1900 weekends / holidays, 0700-0700 weekends / holidays.Call is split within the department as fairly as possible.The majority of shifts available are likely to be 1330-2200 and 2200-0630.
