Investigative Officer
Under the direction of a Senior Investigator, within the Compliance / Enforcement Unit, the position will conduct field visits and manage their own caseload in a timely and efficient manner. And communicate clearly with employees and employers daily while in the field and from the office. The Investigator instructs them on the requirements of the Workers' Compensation Law. Specific duties include, but are not limited to :
This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. At a future date, it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in an NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified. Appointment title will be dependent upon qualifications of the candidate selected. Candidates may be required to serve a one-year traineeship that leads to the SG- 16 position. The traineeship would include the SG-13 Trainee position. After successful completion of the one-year traineeship the incumbent will advance to the SG-16 level.
NON-COMPETITIVE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
For the Investigative Officer Trainee position, candidates must have four years of experience gathering and securing information and evidence from a variety of sources through independent, non-structured activities including the preparation and submission of detailed narrative reports describing the method of gathering the evidence and the results of the investigations. Experience in auditing, interviewing, building security surveillance, traffic enforcement, or performing routine inspections or surveys will NOT be considered investigative experience. Substitutions : an associate degree can substitute for two years of specialized experience; and a bachelor's or higher degree can substitute for four years of specialized experience.
For the Investigative Officer 1 position, candidates must have five years of experience
55 B / C QUALIFICATIONS :
Individuals certified eligible for the 55b / c program under the Governor's Program to Hire Persons / Veterans with Disabilities pursuant to Section 55b / c of the Civil Service Law will also be considered. To be considered, you must meet the minimum qualifications and provide a copy of your letter of eligibility with your response. Candidates must meet the non-competitive minimum qualifications listed above.
COMPETITIVE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
CIVIC SERVICE LIST APPOINTMENT : Candidates must be reachable on the appropriate Civil Service eligible list.
TRANSFER QUALIFICATIONS : Candidates must have one year permanent competitive or non-competitive 55 b / c service as an Investigative Officer 1, or be eligible to transfer under section 70.1 or 70.4 of the Civil Service Law.
