Position Summary The Associate Epidemiologist supports the collection, analysis, and interpretation of public health data to monitor diseases, evaluate health programs, and guide decision-making. This role assists in outbreak investigations, prepares epidemiological reports, and collaborates with healthcare providers, laboratories, and community partners to improve public health outcomes.
Key Responsibilities - Data Collection & Analysis
- Collect, clean, and manage epidemiological and surveillance data.
- Analyze data using statistical software (e.g., SAS, R, STATA, SPSS).
- Interpret trends and identify potential outbreaks or unusual patterns.
- Surveillance & Monitoring
- Assist in designing and implementing surveillance systems for communicable and non-communicable diseases.
- Monitor public health indicators and generate timely reports.
- Support syndromic surveillance and real-time monitoring activities.
- Outbreak Investigation & Response
- Participate in field investigations of disease outbreaks.
- Conduct case interviews, contact tracing, and exposure assessments.
- Assist with developing control and prevention recommendations.
- Research & Program Support
- Support epidemiological studies and program evaluations.
- Prepare technical summaries, dashboards, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
- Contribute to scientific manuscripts, grant applications, and conference presentations.
- Collaboration & Communication
- Work with healthcare providers, laboratories, and local/state/federal partners to improve disease reporting and data quality.
- Communicate findings to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Provide epidemiological input for public health education campaigns.
- Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Ensure data quality, confidentiality, and compliance with public health regulations.
- Adhere to ethical standards in handling sensitive health data.
Qualifications - Education:
- Master's degree in Epidemiology, Public Health, Biostatistics, or related field.
- Experience:
- 1-3 years of applied epidemiology, research, or data analysis experience (internship or practicum experience may count).
- Experience in communicable disease surveillance preferred.
- Skills & Competencies:
- Strong analytical and statistical skills with proficiency in at least one statistical package (SAS, R, STATA, or SPSS).
- Knowledge of epidemiological methods and study design.
- Ability to manage large datasets and apply quality control methods.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams.
