Description :

The Surgical Intensive Care Unit specializes in caring for trauma patients, cardiovascular surgery patients, neurosurgery patients, and other complicated surgical cases.

Skill in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias as well as arterial line management is essential.

Experience in blood product administration is required.

Common diagnoses in this unit include acute ventilator needs, severe sepsis, unstable gastrointestinal bleeds, and multi-system organ failure.

Nurses will provide care for patients recovering from open-heart surgery and complex procedures such as TAVR.

Responsibilities include management of critical conditions and use of advanced monitoring devices.

This unit accommodates procedures such as central line placement and sedation administration at the bedside.

Staff will work in a collaborative environment that includes physical therapy, respiratory services, and rapid response teams.

The patient-to-nurse ratio is approximately 1 : 2-3, which reflects patient acuity and staff skill levels.

Floating to other areas may occur based on facility needs.

Weekend shifts are required every other week.

Travel pairs are not permitted in this unit.
