Pay Rate / Range : The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $140,000 to $175,100 / year. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience; the budget for the position; and the application of fair, equitable, and consistent pay practices at the University. The full salary range for this position is $119,400 to $230,800 / yr.

Brief Summary of Job Duties : Under the supervision of the Director of Capital & Physical Planning, the Associate Director is responsible for the development and supervision of the Long Range Development Plan (LRDP), Plan Amendments, and environmental and physical planning on the campus from the programming stage through approvals at the Campus, Office of the President, Regents and California Coastal Commission. Provides expert level expertise, advice and counsel on the development, revision, and implementation of the LRDP. The position is recognized as the campus' expert on long-range and environmental planning. Represents the campus and university officials in community and governmental relationships. Coordinates with staff UCOP Physical and Environmental Planning in preparing the LRDP, Coastal Plan, and EIR as well as supporting material, related reports, and presentations. Manages and works with professional consultants working on the LRDP as well as physical planning studies including community affairs, planning, and environmental specialists. Works in close association with the Directors of Capital and Physical Planning, Design and Construction Services and Facilities Management to ensure the campus is compliant with all local, state, and federal environmental laws that pertain to the UC Santa Barbara campus. Works in close coordination with these directors in the planning, programming, design and implementation phase of all projects subject to outside or internal agencies reviews. Responsible for the supervision of the Planning staff, composed of up to two Senior Planners and one Principal Planner, and work study and intern positions.
Required Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree - Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Expert knowledge / skills in all aspects of city and environmental planning, architecture, other planning-related fields, including knowledge / skills in large-scale site planning.
Must be judicious and possess political acumen, have expert project management experience, negotiation skills, excellent writing, and analytical capabilities, be adept at public speaking, and have a track record of successfully managing multiple projects with competing demands under the pressure of deadlines.
Expert skills in building, maintaining and nurturing strong professional relationships to achieve short and long range organizational development goals.
Expert knowledge of the organization, including its architectural history, short and long range development plans, infrastructure and current, on-going and future design and construction plans.
Preferred Qualifications :
7-9 years - In closely related field
Master's degree - Masters in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, City Planning or other planning or environmental related field preferred.
