This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.

Pay : Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases

Paid Time Off : 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)

Work Schedule : M-F; 8a-430p; rotate call with the other Psychiatrists which include weekends and evenings

This position is remote work eligible and is exempted from return to office requirements. Remote exempted positions are reviewed annually and do not imply permanent remote work status.

DUTIES :

Duties include, but are not limited to :

• Responsible for primarily adult, and, as required or needed, adolescent psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, assessments, medication management, therapeutic intervention and treatment of patients of a quality expected from an expert, experienced psychiatrist.
• Perform and document a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation that includes evaluation of mental status, current and past history of various behaviors, substance use, level of functioning, trauma, and social and developmental history.
• Perform and document a comprehensive physical assessment, with emphasis on the mental status and neurological exam.
• Develop a treatment plan for mental health problems and psychiatric disorders based on evidence-based standards of care, biopsychosocial theories, and current practice guidelines.
• Collaborate as a leader of the interdisciplinary mental health and other health care teams and provide mental health consultation to other team members, including the primary care team.
• Identify both typical and atypical presentations of psychiatric disorders; differentiate psychiatric presentations of medical conditions from psychiatric disorders, including substance related disorders, and arrange appropriate evaluation and follow-up of the former; diagnose psychiatric disorders and recommend treatment.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.

Basic Requirements :

(3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences.

Residents currently enrolled in ACGME / AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs.

Physical Requirements : The Physical requirements of this position include the following tasks which may be performed intermittently : lifting of up to 10 lbs., sitting (4 hours), standing (2 hours), walking (2 hours), bending / stooping (1 hour), twisting (1 / 2 hour), simple grasping (4 hours), fine manipulation (6 hours), reaching above the shoulder (1 / 2 hour), and operating machinery (1 / 2 hour).

Education

Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are :

NOTE : The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities. The appointment will be made only in exceptional circumstances where the candidate's credentials clearly demonstrate high professional attainment or expertise in the specialty area.
