Security Officer

Position Summary

Lawson State Community College is accepting applications for part-time security officers.

This is an applicant pool. Individuals will be hired as needed.
Note: Submitted applications will remain on file for 36 months.
This position will patrol and provide security for Lawson State Campuses in order to deter crime against persons and property.
Salary Schedule: Local Salary Schedule $15/ hour with a maximum of 19 hours per week.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Patrol the campus and make scheduled tours of buildings and grounds by vehicle or on foot to ensure buildings and persons are secure.
2. Monitor events on campus to ensure security and safety for the students, participants, and attendees.
3. Respond to and investigate incidents on campus including but not limited to motor vehicle incidents, or criminal or college violations as assigned.
4. Enforce criminal and traffic laws; assists LSCC Police as needed in making arrests and issuing summons.
5. Lock and unlock outer doors, check buildings and hallways after hours for signs of unusual activity.
6. Issue tickets to violators of campus parking regulations.
7. Monitor students and visitors to ensure compliance with college policies and regulations.
8. Complete clear and concise written offense reports immediately following an incident.
9. Log all activities in daily log register.
10. Inspect all assigned areas for safety hazards.
11. Investigate all adverse campus conditions and situations.
12. Recertify on firearms range annually.
13. Lift, carry and move heavy objects within safety limits.
14. Serve on committees as assigned by Committee on Committees.
15. Perform other work-related duties as assigned by appropriate personnel.
16. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekends.

Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION, STANDARDS, AND TRAINING:

High school diploma or GED

One year of full-time work experience in security or law enforcement

Effective oral and written skills

Must be able to work extended and flexible day, hours and shifts

Must possess superb verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly speak and write in English

REQUIRED LICENSE, CERTIFICATIONS, OR SPECIAL CREDENTIALS:

Valid State Pistol Permit

Valid State of Alabama Driver’s License with a clean driving record

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS AND JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to perform walking, climbing, running, bending, moving, standing, carrying, and lifting up to 50 lbs

Must be able to respond quickly to all areas of the institution in response to security-related issues

Must be able to remain calm and professional in a crisis or stressful situation

Ability to hear and communicate clearly and concisely

Ability to critically think and use good judgment in all matters
