School Custodian

The School Custodian will be responsible for cleaning and securing the school building daily at our Academy for Young Minds (powered by Gersh) school in Long Island City, NY.

Duties and responsibilities :

• Clean and sanitize building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming.
• Service, clean, and supply restrooms with necessary products.
• Clean windows, glass partitions, or mirrors, using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, or squeegees.
• Gather and empty trash, breakdown cardboard boxes.
• Notify managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems.
• Secure windows, shut off lights, walk through building to ensure all windows are closed and secured at the end of each shift.
• Adhere to all safety regulations + procedures.
• Use appropriate safety equipment when necessary.
• Complete daily cleaning check lists for each assigned room.
• Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
• Dust furniture, walls, machines, or equipment.
• Clean and polish furniture and fixtures.
• Clear walkways and steps of building and surrounding areas in the event of inclement weather. Spread rock salt, sand or other materials to ensure staff and student safety.
• Requisition supplies or equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties.
• Mix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications.
• Move heavy furniture, equipment, or supplies, either manually or by using hand trucks.
• Steam clean or shampoo carpets.
• Strip, seal, finish, and polish floors.
• Set up, arrange, or remove decorations, tables, chairs, ladders, or scaffolding to prepare facilities for events, such as banquets or meetings.
