SUMMARY :
The tenure-track Assistant Professor of Wildlife Management at East Texas A&M University (ETAMU) is a full-time 9-month appointment in the College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources. This position will contribute to the universitys interdisciplinary wildlife program. The successful candidate will address issues of state regional and national relevance in wildlife management and conservation with a focused teaching and research emphasis on game management range ecology waterfowl and / or livestock / wildlife interaction. This position will contribute to the colleges teaching research and service missions through impactful externally funded research effective and comprehensive teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels and meaningful service to the department college university and profession within a student-ready framework. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES :
Develop a productive and collaborative atmosphere for teaching research and outreach in an interdisciplinary wildlife program.
Develop and sustain a focused research agenda leading to refereed publications and presentations.
Seek and successfully obtain extramural funding to support independent research.
Mentor and engage both graduate and undergraduate students in research serve on graduate thesis committees.
Teach undergraduate and graduate as scheduled each semester with potential release time depending on research activity.
Develop graduate and undergraduate courses that include wildlife management human wildlife interactions population biology field methods as well as courses in area of expertise.
Demonstrate commitment to effective and innovative pedagogy including development and implementation of various online and blended formats.
Advise students at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Collaborate communicate and provide expertise with faculty and staff for both the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources and the College of Science and Engineering in an interdisciplinary program.
Participate in departmental college and university committees and governance.
Contribute to the professional community through activities such as reviewing conference participation and organizational service.
Engage in outreach or community engagement to advance the mission of the university college and the Wildlife program.
Participate in mentoring the local chapter of the Wildlife Society.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS :
Education : Ph.D. / terminal degree in Wildlife Science or closely related academic discipline at the time of appointment. ABD are encouraged to apply.
Experience / Knowledge / Skills : Evidence of potential for scholarly productivity in research / creative activity. Evidence of effective teaching or teaching potential at the university level including graduate-level instruction.
Ability to : Multi-task and work well as part of a team.
PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS / EXPERIENCE :
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with faculty students state federal and private natural resource organizations.
Demonstrated publication record grant writing ability teaching experience and the ability to work collaboratively.
Experience working with undergraduate and graduate students.
Experience working with farmers ranchers state agencies and industry stakeholders.
Potential for a nationally recognized research agenda wildlife.
Demonstrated potential to attract extramural funding.
SUPERVISION OF OTHERS :
Possible supervision of graduate students.
