Medical Director of Healthcare Epidemiology and Infection Prevention

The Division of Infectious Diseases at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine seeks a full‑time non‑tenure‑eligible clinician‑educator at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor. The Medical Director will lead and oversee infection prevention programs at Northwestern Medicine and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to prevent healthcare‑associated infections. The role includes attending the inpatient ID consult service, the ID outpatient clinic, and contributing to the division’s clinical, research, and teaching mission. Candidates should have experience in infection prevention and healthcare epidemiology, and a strong interest or experience in outcomes research, clinical epidemiology, bioinformatics, or health disparities is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Work with multidisciplinary teams to prevent hospital‑associated infections using best practices.
• Work to reduce transmission of infectious agents using strategic surveillance, cutting‑edge laboratory technologies, and by promoting optimal hand hygiene and disinfection practices.
• Collaborate with the hospital epidemiologist to keep leadership informed of potential infection‑related risks to patients, staff and visitors.
• Provide education to clinicians, staff, trainees, and patients on infection prevention priorities.
• Advance knowledge by contributing to scientific research in the fields of infection prevention and infectious diseases.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates will hold a medical degree and be board certified in infectious diseases. Rank and salary are commensurate with experience.
