Paratransit Operator

The City of Everett is accepting applications on an open / continuous basis for the Civil Service examination process for Paratransit Operator.

Located 25 miles north of Seattle and nestled between Port Gardner Bay and the Snohomish River, Everett is the largest city in Snohomish County. Everett Transit is a dynamic group of people providing transportation to an exciting and growing community. Paratransit is public transportation, with a twist! Paratransit services provide a transportation option for those individuals who are unable to use the fixed-route bus system serving their location. It is a flexible, shared ride service designed to accommodate the specific needs of their pre-qualified riders. Operators are compassionate, safety driven professionals who want to make a positive difference in other people's lives.

Paratransit Operator Salary Range :

  • $29.84 / hour, during training through 6 months.
  • $31.90 / hour, 7 12 months
  • $33.94 / hour, 13 24 months
  • $36.01 / hour, 25 36 months
  • $38.13 / hour, 37+ months - 5 years
  • $40.25 / hour +5 to 10 years of service
  • $42.37 / hour 10+ years of service

Qualifications and Special Requirements :

  • Applicants must meet the basic threshold minimum requirement stated in the City's supplemental questionnaire.
  • Applicants for the position of Paratransit Operator must successfully pass all elements of the hiring process, including a driving record check, background check, pre-employment medical exam and drug screen. This position is considered safety sensitive under Federal law.

  • LATE, INCOMPLETE, FAXED, OR EMAILED APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

    • Examination Steps :

  • There will be a pre-screening of all applications.
  • Responses to the supplemental questionnaire and the resume will be reviewed together to generate a single combined score, which will be blind-rated and weighted at 10%.
  • Top-scoring applicants will be called to an oral panel interview (weighted 90%) Tentatively scheduled for February 12, 2026.
  • The ranked Civil Service eligibility register for this position is subject to continuous modification as a result of the open / continuous nature of the process; however, scores earned as a result of this screening process are valid for twelve (12) months after certification by the Civil Service Commission.

    • Important Notes :

  • A passing grade of 70.00 or higher is required on all parts of the screening process for placement on the ranked Civil Service eligible register.
  • The examination process is designed to sample and measure the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Applicants claiming veterans' preference points in accordance with RCW 41.04.010 as amended and meeting eligibility criteria must submit form DD214, or its equivalent or successor discharge paperwork, that characterizes his or her service as qualifying discharge as defined in RCW 73.04.005.
  • This position is classified as safety-sensitive and will be subject to the City of Everett's Drug and Alcohol Policy per Department of Transportation regulations.
  • Hiring offers are contingent upon successful completion of a city-paid pre-employment physical.
  • This job classification is represented by Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU), Division Number 883.
