  • Schedule Details : Nights, 8 and 12 hour shifts, every third weekend rotation, and holiday rotation.

    Sign-On Bonus : $15,000 for 3rd Shift.

    RN Referral Bonus : $5,000 (for Advocate Aurora teammates).

    Unit Overview : Join our 24-bed Neurosurgical Unit to care for a diverse and complex patient population, including :

  • Post-operative craniotomies for bleed evacuation, AVMs, and tumor resections.
  • Cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine surgeries.
  • Patients experiencing hemorrhagic and ischemic strokes as part of our Comprehensive Stroke Program .
  • A high volume of cervical and spinal surgery patients, along with medical overflow cases .
  • What You'll Do :

  • Deliver and coordinate comprehensive, evidence-based patient care using the nursing process.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams for safe, therapeutic, and compassionate care.
  • Utilize clinical judgment and critical thinking to support optimal patient outcomes.
  • Contribute to a positive patient experience throughout the continuum of care.

  • Major Responsibilities :

  • Assess patient needs using the nursing process and plan individualized interventions.
  • Recognize significant changes in patient condition, status, and needs for care.
  • Implement strategies to enhance patient safety and reduce risk.
  • Actively coordinate discharge planning utilizing an interdisciplinary approach.
  • Evaluate patient, team, and unit outcomes, taking appropriate actions when necessary.
  • Demonstrate effective communication and conflict resolution skills, promoting collaboration.
  • Identify and intervene in threats to patient safety.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance department functions and patient care.
  • Engage in professional development activities to foster personal and professional growth.
  • Licensure, Registration, and / or Certification Required :

  • Registered Nurse license issued by the state of practice.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification by AHA.
  • Education Required :

  • Completion of an accredited Nursing program.
  • Experience Required :

  • Typically requires 1 year of clinical nursing experience.
  • Skills & Abilities Required :

  • Progression in providing holistic patient care with a patient and family focus.
  • Recognize changes requiring timely and effective interventions.
  • Proficient in computer skills, electronic medical records, and communication.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills to build rapport with patients and team members.
  • Ability to make critical, independent decisions effectively.
  • Organizational and problem-solving skills with effective time management.
  • Collaboration, delegation, and team-building abilities.
  • Physical Requirements and Working Conditions :

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach, and twist frequently.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs. and carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance.
  • Push / pull with 30 lbs. of force and perform sliding transfers with assistance.
  • Potential exposure to hazardous materials and blood; personal protective equipment is provided.
  • Must have functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch, with fine motor skills for procedures.
