Unit : Pediatrics (24 hour pediatric hospitalists in house)

Location (BMH) Bakersfield Memorial Hospital

# beds : 35 (average census is 8 - up in winter, down in summer)

Ratios : 4 to 1 both days / nights

Certs : BLS & PALS

EMR System : Cerner

Charge RN : Yes, do not take patients

Nurse Aides : Yes, based on census on how many

Weekend Requirement : Every other weekend

Holidays : 2 of the major

Scrub Color : Navy

Tele : have monitoring but don't have a tech

Vents : None

Peds Hospitalist or Intensivist in house : Yes, in house 24 / 7

IV Team : None

RT 24 / 7 : Yes

Pharmacy 24 / 7 : Yes

Call : When Census drops, may be placed on standby

Unit Orientation : Total of 4 shifts, 2 in Peds, 1 in PICU, 1 in Burn

Shifts / Hours : 12 hours; 7a - 7 : 30p / 7p - 7 : 30a

Breaks : 1 / 2 hour break (clock-out); 3 - 15 min breaks per shift

Types of patients : Respiratory distress, appendectomy, dehydration, DKA, seizures, general surgeries only

Floating : To PICU for low acuity and burn ICU for appropriate level of care peds.

Additional Notes : Ages up to 13, however will take older developmentally challenged patients; use medfusion pumps

Must be able to start their own IV's, strong clinical skills.
