Job Description

The Director, Retail Operations NAM, plays a critical role in building the operational foundation for a rapidly growing retail organization. This leader will design, implement, and scale processes, systems, and tools that enable operational excellence across all stores.

The Director is responsible for developing, executing, and optimizing the overall Retail Long Range Business Planning & Strategy across the NAM Region, ensuring alignment with the company's global vision and objectives. Reporting directly to the Salomon Retail Vice President, NAM, this role oversees all aspects of the retail business, including strategic execution, daily operations, and full Profit & Loss (P&L) accountability. The Director drives growth, profitability, and operational excellence while delivering a seamless customer experience and maintaining the brand's positioning in the market.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities :

Strategic Leadership :

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive retail strategy aligned with global and regional objectives, focusing on growth, profitability, and brand equity.
  • Design and implement scalable operating procedures, standards, and systems to support rapid growth (e.g., SOPs for retail stores).
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of the global retail playbook, reporting structures, and processesensuring consistency while adapting for regional nuance.
  • Serve as the central hub for field communications, streamlining store messaging, performance reporting, task management, project delivery, and feedback loops.
  • Proactively identify risks and obstacles, adapting strategies in real time to ensure seamless store operations and sustained business performance.
  • Partner cross-functionally to drive continuous improvement and innovation across retail operations and DTC initiatives.

P&L and Financial Management :

  • Oversee full P&L responsibility for the NAM retail business, ensuring revenue growth, profitability, and cost optimization (SG&A).
  • Set and manage store sales plans, including individual store budgets for bonus payouts.
  • Analyze store KPIs and financial targets, implementing corrective actions to address deviations.
  • Serve as the leader and "super-user" of Salomon's reporting and technology platforms, providing training, support, and financial insights (Power BI, Tamigo, Cegic, Splus, Ariba, etc.).
  • Partner with FP&A to build bottoms-up budget targets based on historical data and anticipated expenses, managing personnel costs, labor standards, and compliance.
  • Lead retail operational audits and ensure compliance with SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) and Loss Prevention strategies, developing procedures to protect company assets.
  • Retail Operations :

  • Oversee day-to-day retail operations, ensuring consistency, compliance, and alignment with brand standards.
  • Provide strategic development and oversight of loss prevention and asset protection programs to minimize shrink and safeguard company resources.
  • Support new store openings by developing operational readiness processes and managing project execution.
  • Identify, implement, and optimize retail technologies and omni-channel services (e.g., BOPIS, endless aisle, ship-from-store).
  • Lead the rollout and testing of new retail technology platforms in collaboration with global partners.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Supply Chain to ensure timely deliveries and optimal in-stock performance.
  • Lead and coordinate all Retail Leadership meetings for the NAM region.
  • Team Leadership and Talent Development :

  • Drive operational excellence across the retail organization, guiding field teams in the consistent application of SOPs.
  • Build, lead, and mentor high-performing teams, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and collaboration.
  • Define and communicate clear goals, roles, and responsibilities to ensure alignment and execution excellence.
  • Collaborate with HR to recruit, retain, and develop top talent to support the company's growth objectives.
  • Customer Experience and Brand Alignment :

  • Ensure retail teams deliver a world-class customer experience that reflects the brand's values and positioning.
  • Implement customer feedback loops and leverage data analysis to continuously improve the customer journey.
  • Partner with marketing, product, and brand teams to ensure consistent messaging and product alignment across channels.
  • Qualifications

    This role requires a dynamic and visionary leader with a proven track record of driving DTC business performance, managing complex operations across diverse markets, and fostering innovation in a fast-paced environment.

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in retail operations, with at least 5 years in a multi-store or regional leadership role.
  • Proven track record of managing P&L, driving profitability, and scaling retail operations in a high-growth environment.
  • Strong understanding of in-store operations, merchandising, and visual presentation standards.
  • Experience implementing strategic initiatives that align with global brand objectives and regional business needs.
  • Demonstrated success leading cross-functional teams and collaborating across global and regional stakeholders.
  • Exceptional project management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and execute multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Strong analytical and financial acumen; adept at leveraging data and reporting platforms to inform business decisions.
  • Deep knowledge of the current retail landscape, including omni-channel and DTC trends in fashion, lifestyle, and performance categories preferred.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and skilled in driving operational excellence through clear processes and standards.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with a collaborative leadership style and global perspective.
